Aging eyes.
Not everyone noticed, but statistically speaking, as we age, our eyes dry. In real life this means they can not always enough moisture to produce a healthy and functioning tear film. itching, burning and red eyes, and the result eye discomfort can often headache, drowsiness, blurred vision and other symptoms. Chronic dry eye can cause corneal ulceration and, eventually, impaired vision.
What is Dry Eye?
Eye will be dry for two reasons. (1) They do not produce enough tears. (2) There is something that an abnormal high rate of tear evaporation. The vast majority of dry eye is caused by excessive evaporation.
In 2007, the Dry Eye Workshop (Dew), the following revised definition of dry eye. "Dry eye is a multifactorial disease of the ocular surface and tears … that is associated with increased osmolarity (Tendency to lose water) of the tear film and ocular surface inflammation. Dry eye is recognized as a disruption of the lacrimal functional unit "(LF), an integrated system includes lacrimal (tear) glands, ocular surface (cornea, conjunctiva and meibomian [oil] glands) and lids, and sensory and motor nerves that connect them (Link dew to report). According to the dew report, the prevalence of dry eye ranges from 5% (moderate to severe) to 30% (mild) among people 50 years and older. It is estimated that 4.9 million Americans (3.2 million women and 1.7 million men), age 50 years and older, moderate to severe dry eye. Tens of millions more have mild dry eye may be noticaable only when a number of negative factors present, such as low humidity or contact lenses.
Causes of Evaporative Dry Eye
1. The environment.
Central heating (forced air dry heat), reduced hair dryer, windshield defroster, air, dry climates, wind, air pollution (cigarette smoke), contact lenses, flash drive, TV, computers, reading.
2. Eyelid Inflammation.
Blepharitis (swollen eyelids), rosacea (adult acne), and MGD (Meibomian gland dysfunction).
3. Cover surface anomalies.
There are a number of conditions can prevent the spreading of tear film of evenly over the ocular surface.
Tear film function and structure.
The tear film covering the exposed optical surface is incredibly complex, for it is only about five microns (millionths of a meter) thick. Tear film components include:
Lipid layer. The upper layer consists of a thin film of fatty oils that lubricate the eye and slows evaporation from the lower layers.
Low Water. The middle and thickest layer contains the vast majority of the moisture and is where fluid loss occurs. The layer also contains electrolytes, proteins and bacteria fighting antibodies.
Mucin. These lower layer of glue on the tear film on the optical surface.
Soothing dry eyes.
Soothing dry eyes need a simple procedure:! Add the liquid from the tear film, in fact, the tear film is perfectly capable of extracting all the moisture from the air humidity should be provided the air is quite humid (70% at 70 degrees) and unpolluted.
However, the standard solution to dry, irritated eyes always have eye drops, natural moisture. However, formulated drops invariably lack one thing: The small amount of pure, natural, pH balanced water that is all a "dry" tear film really needs. Also a typical ophthalmic solution is ten times larger than the tear film and can wash away important parts such as evaporation retardant lipids and infection-fighting antibodies. Brand new carpet flooded it's safe to let it air dry or it will get moldy?
Flooded the sink in the kitchen at our last frozen pipes thawed. First of all it is illegal to carpet in our kitchen in Michigan, but we have a cheap owner. And I doubt he will spend the carpet replaced. We are expecting our first child in July and concerned about mold caused by the now soaking wet carpet. Is it safe to just air dry or replace it?
I would not think it is illegal to Kithcen the carpet, but then again I only MI Holiday (and they seem to odd-ish things for allot of regs), and not really necessary to know the law or building codes tenacy, but you need to dry the air to get under and on top, if you lift the carpet and place some 2×4 on the edge of 5 or 6 meters from one another, allowing air to circulate. It should be fairly dry quickly (and safely), by obtaining the carpet slightly elevated will also allow the dry lining.
