Baby Sling – Fashionable Stress Reduction & Good for your kids
There are dozens of sites out there cataloging the various advantages of the baby. Baby carriers offer parent / child bonding, bone and muscle development, a calmer child, reduced post-partum depression, and on and on and on. These are all very important and I encourage parents and carers read on.
However, I wanted a slightly different approach. In this cyber world of emoticons and acronyms, I go to my darnedest to these pixels express my feelings about slings and why I do it.
Reason 1: It feels good
Flashback. The year 2002. Handsome hubby and I are married for only 10 months when our little girl could not wait to surprise us. Nine months later, there she was, full head of black hair, big blue eyes with eyelashes loooongest, and that funny Gobbler chin. We were both at school and work, but I knew I could not bear to ever leave her, and my incredible husband offered me the great blessing and the honor of staying home with my baby. Were we poor? Oh well! But we had faith, a beautiful baby, and we were happy. I carried her in the ugliest baby sling ever documented, but she was nice enough to make it right. Her first year I I am not sure her head ever hit a pillow. What does a stay at home mom of a beautiful baby to do with her time? Nothing! And that's just how it should be. She never left my side. I spoke with her. Sang for her. Sat with her. And I was happy.
Reason 2: You can get things done and keep your baby
Now it's 2004. Ten days late in the final record-breaking heat in August, and 9.5 pound baby boy finally decides it on the outside. Fuzzy white hairs. Blue eyes. And again, looong eyelashes. My graduate husband has accepted a real adult job in Portland, Oregon, and we make the move with our two years old and two weeks old. Fortunately, I came a little stretchy, sweet striped fabric on clearance and made a sling murderer. Boy was all cuddled up while I filled it with him. I talked and sang to him. I hardly sat down. I was happy!
In Portland, I did not know anyone, did not know where the supermarket was, how the streets worked, nothing! We have moved just as the rains were taking their permanent winter spot. Our families were hundreds of miles away. My husband worked full time for the first time in our marriage. I was depressed. My greatest solace was in those rare occasions of blissful silence when I looked at my baby's fat roll little body sleeping sweetly in the baby pouch against me. My two years old was a hilarious handful, so my chubby buddy practically lived in that sling carrier while I chased his big sister around the house, around the gym and around the supermarket. I heard his little baby sighs and see his little baby twitches. He heard my heart beat while I rubbed his squishy little back through the noose. I talked to him about unpacking. I sang a song of the plant in and I finally got to sit. I was happy.
Reason 3: It saves my sanity
A few more years and another move later, baby 3 shoots in this world in just 36 minutes flat. We bought our first house with all his subsequent projects. We started with one company. We voluntarily. Some days I can not, can not, can not do everything. I sometimes snap under the pressure and into Momzilla – which always makes me cry when my precious little ones under my wing, yelling "TO HECK household!" and read book after book after book and go then to the park until it was too dark to see the slide.
I think about baby number one and mutter, "What on earth I spent the whole day with just one?" Now I hardly stand still for thirty seconds at a time. Mom, make breakfast. Mom, we have no clean clothes. Mom, there's gum in my hair. I'm still hungry. He is smelly. I'm tired. That spilled. School fundraiser. Dozen cookies. Lost shoe. Hunger. Baby crying.
Oh, the baby cries. He almost never cries. He is the happiest little clam. But when he does cry and I say "I'm just doing this one thing. Just one minute." My heart breaks just a little. I put him in my spiffy new Cocoa Brown HugaMonkey sling. Achieved he with a smile and tugs on my hoodie strings. Oh, those eyelashes! I ruffle the long black hair. He laughs more. I give him a little hug and soar with joy that he curled up in front of me in the baby bag. He sees my face. I sing while I cook. I talk while I wash. I sit while I tie shoes. I am extremely happy.
Reason 4: I love my kids
I always want to spend any time with my children. I miss my grown up girl in kindergarten when they are three full hours. We have tea parties and you play clothes and car races. These are my three best friends. Any device that helps me a better mother while practical, simple and beautiful should win some kind of big. If you can not surgically attach bionic arms to your body, go for the next best thing. I love my sling.

What are some ideas for my daughter to make art for the nursery for her baby brother soon?
I want my daughter to participate in decorating her brother in the room. She is 3 years old and I would like some wall art for the nursery. Any ideas?
its nice that you get her! although can be messy maybe some hand-and footprints in the paint would be a good idea after all she is only 3 so we cannot expect no Picasso, but it would be fun for you both to be and look good. Remember MUCH paper down and close the doors to other rooms!
