Fishing from the Beach Hotel Phuket
Eating fish
Most travel to Thailand for the hotels, beaches, food, nightlife and entertainment. But what about people who like to fish here? Some of us eat fish, some fish for fun, but in the end are fun to eat fish, mainly to if it's something beautiful as Phuket, Thailand. Many of the hotels near the island of Phuket lie so close to the beach just a rod and line and the head of rent a bit of beach fishing. Trevally, barracuda, garfish and some of the tasties you would pursue, but almost all fished in the sea here can be eaten. Take your catch back to the hotel and get the head cook one for you to do. On the other hand, if you feel a bit more adventurous, why not go fishing excursion? To give you an idea what this could pose, I took the following excerpt from a travel writer friend of mine who recently visited Phuket.
After spending the first few days here lounging in the sun, the sand on the beach, then enjoy the nightlife that experienced the exoticism of Phuket food, culture and good old fashioned romance, my wife and I decided to combine that on this holiday, we want to spend a part of our vacation week is doing something new. A fishing excursion! We were picked up at our hotel at 8:00 am, (as opposed to popular belief that Thais are never on time, we could see the van pulling up in front of the hotel at 7:30 am from the hotel breakfast bar). Our boat was due to Chalong Pier departing at 08:30 and head to the sea after a crew of four, including the captain, and six adventurers were boarded up. Unfortunately two of the six was not waiting in their hotel so there was just us four for this one night, two-day trip. Anyway, we finally got off, now owned by a Thai captain who, with pretty good English explained to us that we head for what he considered would be a good place to catch the first part of our excursion. This trip was fully supported, plus eat-what-we catch, all delivered of rods, reels, to flashlights for night fishing and patches for pruning, we did not have to worry about a thing. Sleeping bags and foam mats were also provided for some of shut-eye, we would be allowed on the deck and of course the night-natural air-conditioning with a view to-die-for, a breathtaking sky a shimmering sky blanket for our souls to rest. Fish for us, of course, was a learning experience. Something I had not done since elementary school, but the crew were always on hand to help. I caught a number of trevally and my wife Sheila a small King Mackerel barbied that along with the rest of the catch caught our delicious dinner. Apart from the fish, the whole trip was very beautiful and picturesque, and I remember thinking that it was much better than staying at our hotel, relax on the beaches or have to travel far to a zoo. All too soon, Our travel adventure came to an end and we were back on the squeaky white beaches and surrounded by coconut palms again. The thing I remember most clearly about this trip was seeing Sailfish jumping from high and tailing the surface, feeding on balls of baitfish – a truly amazing sight and one that I will never forget.
