Happiness Horror Story: The Too-Tall Teddy Bear

My daughter Azalea, a basic skill, is very sweet and a shining example of the values I drill into her: the AIR Equation, the 3-part formula which states that Happiness = Acceptance + Inspiration + Respect. Born and raised in a neighborhood full of ex-cons and Type-A athletes, I sometimes struggle on what the right mix of sweetness to her.
My wife says our daughter has a loving softness to her. "Too sweet," many admirers say, some who do not know her from Eve as she reluctantly reversed her hug their necks. "Caution her. She is. Be kind to strangers "She accepts and befriends everyone: Whites, blacks, the popular, misfits, bullies, the bullied, long, short, girls, guys, the geeks, the meek. This is Azalea, like her namesake plant that flowers in dry soil, looking to spread happiness in the most barren places. This is why what is so awful no later.
It's Sunday. I read the newspaper in my adjustable loveseat, while playing on the living room floor. I relive my childhood by two children every day. Warm Fuzzies get me when I listen to her speech for her dolls and act like the grown-up for them when she plays parent, teacher, or cashier.
Net as a spy I secretly pull the newspaper, turning my head so my eyes is the first thing to ease into the picture. Her dolls are in rows in an imaginary world with classroom desks and invisible a wood panel blackboard that our living room wall. Barbie teaches class. Fast, Azalea rolls her toy VW bus to school and instructs the dolls on where to sit. She has probably do not realize they have the cuter ones on the first.
My cartoonist side notes this immediately, how characters are cuter by them a very small nose (or no) as the Bratz doll in the front seat and Hello Kitty peeking through the side window. Her favorite doll, a teddy bear, which towers over everybody – even the bus. I return to the Real Estate Department.
I hear a growl like a child pushing a Tinkertoy tightly in place. I smile at her budding determination and to relax a travel article picture.
Azaleas in morphs grunting growl. Suddenly I hear her pounding on the floor with such ferocity that I can feel the vibrations through the loveseat. I check on her. She is unhappy living, the body hit her favorite teddy bear!
I dash to her. "Why are you beating him?"
"He does not want to play with me. I want him to ride with us, but he will not obey. He will not get completely inside. "
"He is too high to fit in. "
Without warning, she lunges for the bear. She grunts and puts him in with the classic tongue-out-to-the-side sincerely you see in staged photographs of hardworking Children rarely seen in real life. He is thigh-high and seems set to go no further. They Pries the bear and marches him into the kitchen trash.
I hit over there her. "He can not help his size. Do not beat him. He really wants to play with you." I find a corner for the AIR Equation. "Hey, you know how Daddy lost and used his GPS system in your car? "
She nods and wipes a tear from her red face.
I point at the ceiling. "It talks to a large satellite in the air that can see where I'm headed and tell me the best way to get where I need to go. Well, your teddy bear can do the same for you and your friends. Put him on the roof where he can be best position to see what others can not, and all of you to rescue lost. "
The red discharge from her face as her opening speech, a smiling mouth release valve. She pulls the bear in her lap, gave him her patented hug around the neck.
I read the magazine section today. Azalea rides her dolls around the house. Teddy bear sits like a guru on the roof. She asks him how to get anywhere because they have never been on this road before, and he instructs her.
