How to motivate people
You all your life motivating people to them to do things for you. As a child, your life depends on getting others for your care. As an adult, your success is largely derived from your ability to do things others.
It seems that you are always faced with the motivation of someone to do something. You want your children to get better grades, salespeople to work harder, to acquire customers, to draw your boss treat you better with your spouse or others in the department to a deeper interest in their work to take.
There is one rule you can follow that will allow you to achieve those objectives. In other words, a good motivator. You have heard of this rule, "To the extent that you give others what they want, they will give you what you want."
The secret of this rule is that you should give to others what they want first. Then they give you what you want. Most people do not discover this. That is why the motivation of employees are said to the number one business problem in America today.
Most people try to line service in an opposite direction. The employer says: "Let the individual I'll put the effort to give the increase. One spouse thinks I should not be so grumpy around the house as my partner would be a little more love and affection shown towards me. The sales manager waits until the person reaches the high standard of sales performance before the approval is given.
But you see, that's the rule backwards to apply. That is like say: "I'm going to wait till you give me what I want, maybe I'll give you what you want. You have to give others what they want first. This is the key to motivating others.
But what do the others? Is it money or personal benefits that people want most? It's all a psychological satisfaction. People will work harder for psychic income than they will for monetary income! People need more than financial security. They need security boss, leadership, safety, security of person to person.
And people look to you for the psychological security. Unethical conduct, dishonesty, nepotism or never goes undercover to motivate someone to high levels performance. People need to see that you are addressing questions and make decisions based on facts and logic rather than emotion. They must know that you want them, respect them, understand them and they accept not only their strengths but also their weaknesses. They want you to be honest. They should see a set of values and integrity they can trust. Your standards should be those that encourage the best in others.
Why? It is believed that as many as ninety percent of the things we do are motivated by a desire to feel important. Unfortunately, most experience of a person who communicates the opposite message.
Let Josh. He feels like a born loser. Here's why … The other children call Josh peewee, the teachers tell him stupid and lazy, his mother nags him about his slovenly appearance, he said he sure does not have the ambition and the spirit children had when his father was a boy. He did not make the football team, girls do not like him, customers bawl him out and call him names, everyone in the office trying in advance to get him, nobody thinks he's important, especially Josh, himself.
Now you come along. You want Josh to motivate, so you feel ten meters tall and bulletproof. Overlooking his crooked nose and big ears. You tell him he has the biggest smile in the world. You become the coach thinks he could be the star quarterback. You're the one who sees him as the president of the company. You are a lot of people around him – the people he wanted to impress, but did not. You see him as a man loaded with untapped potential and You go out of their way to express this attitude.
By treating him, do you think Josh will be motivated to give you what you want too? Motivate people to marks the best in them the first time is very powerful for both the recipient and to you. Applying these principles in all your relationships, from now, and your world is in for a dramatic positive change!
