Gaming Biggest Sophomore slumps
Written by Podunker: Number 905
It is natural for the fans to want more of a good thing, running a good game in a special series. Not every entry is great, but there are normal spoken enough hits to offset missing, and it usually takes a couple of years for a series to be cut. In some cases, however, have a fantastic debut met with sub-par prosecute. They would not have slain the series, this half-year drop passive spots that fans will never forget.
Different directions
These are the games that, although not necessarily bad, decided to take a different approach than the original game. They have their share of supporters, but most consider them as games that change was just a little too far.
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Nintendo released Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link one year after the successful The Legend of Zelda NES charmed players everywhere. Unlike the top-down adventure of the first game, Zelda side-scroller targeted at two areas linked by an upper world, a la Final Fantasy. Borrowing from RPG's not stop there, though, if the game resulted in a level system, spells, and a focus on cities and talking to people, which were often rather vague, if not entirely useless. It is a unique entry in the series, and still playable, but I think we all thank Nintendo went back to the top-down style.
Super Mario Bros 2 (USA / Europe)
While Japan got a Super Mario Bros. 2, which was largely as the original, other regions have this. Yes, the famous Super Mario Bros. 2 by the U.S. and Europe is actually a sprite swap of 1987 is Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic. SMB2 Mario did have some characters, lets you play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach, and it was a platformer. Other than that, though, Super Mario Bros. 2 bares no resemblance to its namesake. The famous enemies were gone and instead of jumping on them, you had to throw and throw something, usually a turnip to them. It was a strange match, especially at the time but was still good, despite no such thing as Super Mario Bros. players knew and loved.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
See that awesome guy there on that box? This is Solid Snake. Do you remember him. He is the kick-ass soldier you play as Metal Gear Solid, where you infiltrated Shadow Moses Island and stopped a nuclear war. Only now he was on the PlayStation 2, meaning that Snake has more polygons on to look badass. For the entire third of the game you play as him. Yes, I did. MGS2 is not a bad game, but it is notorious for bait-and-turn draws him early. After some time enjoying playing as Solid Snake again, the game moves into a new character for you to play: Raiden. And he's not Solid Snake.
The Quality Drop
While the previous set of games have their merits, what follows here are games that do not conform to the hype. Despite the attempt, but they were not as good as the original.
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
Like Zelda 2, Simon's Quest RPG elements processed. Simon's Quest, though, did nothing for the mistakes of the first Castlevania fix and added new problems. Each jump over a pit can mean certain doom, and flying enemies are just as much of a problem as they always were. All the difficulty of the first is preserved, currency management thrown in for good measure. You have to create with blunt and villagers puzzles with hints that it "Dodongo dislikes smoke" seems hand-holding. You also see the above message pop up nice and stop the game every few minutes.

Mega Man II
Calm down, I'm not talking the image on the left. This is Mega Man 2. The image on the right is Mega Man II. At first This may seem like a great idea. Mega Man 2 was great, and now you can play whenever you like on the Game Boy. Mega Man II, but is absolutely horrible. First, the soundtrack make you glad someone thought that a volume control to turn on the Game Boy. It is blaring and distracting, while managing not even remotely resemble the Mega Man 2 soundtrack. The game itself is too difficult, has broken mechanics, terrible backgrounds, and just plain bad. The first Mega Man game for the Game Boy was not fantastic, but it was a appropriate range. However, this is about as bad as a port can get.
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy X was a nice, fun game, but a little quirky and sometimes awkward. It ended on a note, and the people were very happy to see another game from the series give a happy ending. Then we saw Final Fantasy X-2, essentially the "Barbie Horse Adventures" of the series. I take the good out of the way: Outside of Final Fantasy XIII, X-2 has the best battle system in the series. Everything is ridiculous. This battle system is built around playing dress-up, and the game itself is just painfully awkward, making even the laughing scene in Final Fantasy X seems a good idea. Speak of that happy ending, you need 100% at the end of the game, the meter will show that even brief scene, which is a task that is impossible without following a guide. There is also a massage mini-game.
The reactionaries
Sometimes people are able to look back and realize they've made a mistake. What follows games that are, by their shortcomings, managed to a radical response from developers and fans to activate.
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan)
This is a frightening marriage of old-school gameplay and modern Nintendo hardware greed. It used similar graphics and the same engine as Super Mario Bros., making it more like an expansion pack or add-on than a new game. What it did add, but was an unprecedented level of frustration. SMB2 recommended absolutely brutal level design that pulls no punches, as it was made for people who already mastered the original. It also introduced the Poison Mushroom, a "power-up that damaged the Mario collection. And after rescue the princess at the end of the world 8? Why, you get four new worlds to play, full of dangers and even more pain! Realizing how difficult the game was, Nintendo decided not abroad to let go, that's why the American and European version of Super Mario Bros. 2 is so different. We eventually won the game in the SNES compilation Super Mario All-Stars, with improved graphics and, fortunately, a save system.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a fantastic game and a great use of a license. It was just obvious that there would be a sequel. Even with the game moving hands of BioWare to Obsidian, fans were optimistic. Unfortunately, he walked hurriedly by LucasArts. Huge amounts of end-game content was scraped to the imposed release schedule to meet, resulting in a game that apart fell at the end. The contents cut was so extensive that some fans took it upon themselves to restore what was left out and deliver a version of the game closer to the vision of Obsidian's.
Devil May Cry 2
Okay, there are two things you should know about Devil May Cry 2:
1) It was so much worse than the original, that these days, a common in-joke among fans is that it never existed.
2) Not even Capcom wants to touch, which as an end point for the floating series. Yes, the chronology is on Devil May Cry 3 -> 1 -> 4 -> 2.
Essentially, Devil May Cry 2 did everything wrong that he could have. The story was worse than the original. The Haunting, gothic images of the first were replaced by bland cityscapes. Interesting enemies and bosses were replaced with strange, obsessed cages and fleshy demon-tanks. The combat system was ruined by overpowered guns and a lack of diversity in melee weapons. There was also a second character, Lucy, but all they served to do was to give us twice going through the same terrible game.
While there were a few bad games in this list, it is important to note that this sophomore slumps not the end of the franchises. In some cases, they have brought some of the best in the history of the franchise. I'd say it's worth sitting through of a Super Mario Bros. 2 for Super Mario Bros. 3.

Barbie is hot. but she has a new look for sure. but hey, thats from an adult perspective, so I think there will always be little girls who will always love you barbie cos she will always be new and exciting to them. what little girl would want to play with a fifty years old looking doll? creepy.
