Blue Barbie

Shrimp on the Barbie get ….. or Ken ..
Well, it's been fun, it's great and good, I must say I will miss you something fierce.
Six years ago, this little Aussie duck out of the plane at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago and quickly emptied her stomach on the shoes of the lovely young lady standing at the Customs.
(For those of you who may already know this from my previous article "Dazed and Confused in Small Town USA" had advanced warning this time about customs my inability to fly without hurling. The guards came running out with the bucket, but unfortunately, it was too late.)
Three years later, I will step back on a plane (with a large percentage of the Homeland Security Task Force in tow, as my stomach is now officially listed as a WMR ". Weapon of Mass Regurgitation) and heading back to the little sunburned country I call home … Australia.
In the time I have lived stateside, I received a wealth of subjects to write about and, More importantly, poke fun at.
To be honest, I thought I would take this opportunity to fill you all in on a few of the quirks and idiosyncrasies that can only be found Down Under.
For starters, we Aussie folk are known worldwide for our drinking habits.
This is possible because .. a) Beer is cheaper than bottles of "Dasani" water. b) We can not turn on the TV without any glimpse of our former Prime eyebrows and beer is cheaper than Prozac. c) We're just a nation of alcoholics.
I am from the eastern state of Queensland. Our brews its own beer is the swanky label "XXXX" emblazoned on the can in large, red letters.
There are many jokes about this course. The most common mistake is that Queenslanders if I can not spell "beer." This is wrong and very insulting to our people.
We know how to spell 'beer', it's just that we are often too silly to bother pronouncing it.
My sister-in-law from Indiana had a slightly different interpretation when she came to visit five years ago.
We drove past many a pub with the beer label flash harmlessly in the windows when she turned to me, aghast, and said: "You certainly have a lot of places with extra, extra porn available to everyone?"
Another habit we Australians adopted over the years, the shortening of names and words, so they trusted and loved to wear the ring. (Actually, it's done, we can understand them.) This is usually achieved by adding 's' in an inanimate object we lay eyes on.
BBQ: barbies
Underpants: underwear
Cans Beer: tinnies
Cookies: bikkies
Postmen: posties
The garbage men are also rewarded with a crazy name of their own ". Garbos" I doubt however that a metaphorical link to the sweaty men in blue overalls and the famous, retired movie star.
If you happen to visit our fair shores, do not be alarmed if you hear people call each other "Bazza", "Gazza" or "Shazza".
No, they are not the victims of the parents who have taken their children after drinking the single name "tinnies" of "XXXX. "They are just affectionate terms for people who happen to have been christened "Barry", "Gary" or "Sharon" (after their parents had polished off a few 'tinnies' from 'XXXX'.)
You also need not worry yourself about the number of times you hear someone say how "pissed" they were. (As in: "I was so angry last Saturday Night, "" How Gazza was pissed after drinking twenty "tinnies" of "XXXX"?)
Unlike our American friends, Australians use the verb "pissed" more precisely express the level of drunkenness, they reach a certain day. So, do not arm yourself with the greatest stick you can find. We are not an evil race of people, we just like to have fun (usually at the expense of our kidneys) have.
No, we're certainly not an antagonistic society.
We are all "mates" to each other.
You will hear us call each other "mate" as if it is actually a period at the end of a sentence. ("G'day. Mate" "How are you mate?")
In fact, we are "mates" even if we meet the guts to hate. ("Touch my 'Tinnie' of 'XXXX' mate, and I'll knock you from here to next week!")
On a more serious note, do Australians, in fact, involve themselves in the world of business outside the corner pub.
We have hit the British and Pakistanis on the cricket field for almost a decade now, not to mention holding a sort of record for playing one of the most violent and mindless sports station: Rugby League.
None of this helmet and cross guard stuff for us … pads for 'bladder control.
We will chase, tackle and basically any attempt to break the bone in your body to stop you from getting the ball from one side of the field to another.
Yes, as you can see, I'm not biased, I think all countries are strange and sometimes quirky, including my own.
I do not know how much will have changed when I get back. One of the things I've often found myself thinking in Chicago, where I have been living, is the reason why people put "We call police" signs in their windows (which I say "Jolly good. I call pizza delivery and occasionally on a Sunday my Nanna. ")
It may well be that when I arrive in Oz will sport windows similar warning signs such as "We call Russell Crowe." (That would deter intruders, or, well, all gladiators anyway.)
I hope to give you some more news and interesting facts from the Great Southern Land in the near future. For now though, I Go cracking 'Tinnie' of 'XXXX' open call my good friend Shazza, "and tell her the fire of the shrimp on the 'Barbie' for my holy pilgrimage home.
Until next time buddy …

Barbie with a nearly flat feet and a small chest?
I got this doll for years, but I've never been able to figure out which version of Barbie she really is. She is tanned and has long honey blonde hair, blue eyes and painted. Her legs are bendable, but her arms are stuck in an L position. She is definitely vintage … maybe mid to late 1970 or early 1980. She smiles with her teeth and cheeks are fuller. She is the same height as a traditional Barbie, but has smaller dimensions and her feet are low. Thanks!
She's probably still Barbie, but they have made some changes to the dolls through the years. They have tried to change its shape proportioned so that they will be more than the way she was. She made her more natural so to speak. Some Barbies have high arch and the others have flat feet. Have a great day!
