Italian Honeymoon – A Romantic Day V
Day 5 of our Italian honeymoon saw us heading off to Capri.
An early start was necessary for a visit to the island of Capri. We were in Sorrento and on board the hydrofoil for a 45 minute journey across to the famous island. During the crossing we were approached by a guide offering to show us, where all the rich people live "on Capri. But for us this was not the draw of our destination, so we politely declined and made our own manner upon arrival.
Port Capri (Marina Grande) was a lively place, with an extensive selection of tours available. We circumvented this in favor of our own, unguided exploration of the island. A cable car from the harbor, visitors can scale up the rising hill to the town of Capri itself. Upon seeing the queue for this service, we decided on a run. Now the walk was definitely not for wimps. Some of the slopes between the houses on the hill is, shall we say, straight! But the view as we looked back on the rippling Blue bay is breathtaking.
Once you to the top of the range of small shops are lovely to wander around. The viewing areas along the scenic hill areas absolutely beautiful and the photo opportunities are enormous, and certainly a lot more to me than the shops.
While on Capri is a must to wander around and we managed to walk across the top of the island to the Marina Piccola and down to the secluded bay, where few beaches and restaurants.
The restaurant we decided to Lunch was literally out to sea. We sat with the waves to the rocks just below us, the setting was beautiful. Another three-course lunch with a local bottle of Falanghina white wine. A very distinctive taste, one which I'm sure you can taste Vesuvius.
Unfortunately for us, the tides were high and a trip to the famous caves water was canceled. Oh yes you can not have everything, so we made a spot on the beach, and a swim, to cool off before walking back to Marina Grande and more photo opportunities along the road.
The way back to Sorrento with the setting sun over our shoulders will be remembered for a lifetime.
