Visiting castles in France
France is known for its many castles and one of the main areas that people think is the Loire region with magnificent castles like the castle Chenonceau, but what many people do not realize is that there are many palaces and castles that the city of Paris in the Ile de France region surrounding it.
However, probably the most famous of all these historic buildings in France, the Versailles castle, situated just outside Paris and these types of Chateau are so widespread that you really need to spend a whole day to make on the one hand, to appreciate to the utmost.
In fact, the Château de Versailles is a of the largest castles in the world and is one of the most visited sites in France with its French architecture on a grand scale. Versailles plus history has many galleries with masterpieces and is the largest museum in the world, but this is only part of the castle open to the public!
Yet one of the most famous rooms of the former Royal Palace the 75m long Galerie des Glaces, known as the Hall of Mirrors and this is where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, marking the end of World War I. meant
But gardens designed by Andre Le Notre also the most famous in the world and there are some 1,300 fountains, jets and waterfalls using water pumped from the River Seine, an enormous amount of images and pictures, plus formal gardens to explore. And on a weekend from April to September there are fountain shows for everyone to enjoy.
There is also a show held at the Chateau de Versailles periodically called the Académie du Spectacle Equestre, plus you can use the restored 17th-century royal stables, home to these magnificent horses that the stars of the show.
But enough about the palace, have a quick look at another beautiful castle in France called Chateau de Chantilly, which can be located in one of the largest forests near Paris, this vast estate covers around 7,800 acres, but is not as well known as the Palace of Versailles.
Now, everyone you know that the Louvre has received, will enjoy the museum of historical paintings at the Chateau Chantilly, because it is classified as a of the finest museums in France and the only exception of the Louvre that 3 Raphael paintings.
Chateau de Chantilly and also within the Condé Museum, a book room approximately 30,000 volumes, including 1,500 manuscripts and holds the most important collection in France, plus this castle also contains a rare medieval manuscripts with copy from the11th century.
André Le Nôtre designed the gardens of Château de Chantilly and this castle is the largest expanse of water with the Grand Canal, approximately 2.5 miles long, but another garden designed by Andre is available at the chateau Vaux le Vicomte.
You can even rent an electric golf car to get around the site or a trip on the canal with a visit to the well-restored Chateau Vaux le Vicomte and this French chateau has a horse driven carriage museum, which houses a unique collection of 18th and 19th century carriages, plus an exhibition devoted to Andre Le Notre in the vaulted cellars.
They even hold candlelight visits, specific themed activities for children and from March to October there is a fountain show twice a month, which is a spectacular sight, especially when you consider that the fountains are still gravity fed to same way as they were in the 17th century!
What you choose to visit French chateau, you will not be disappointed and other stately homes near Paris, which all have something else to offer include the Royal Chateau de Fontainebleau, where you can have a big carp feed and tour of the estate in a horse or the Chateau de Sceaux where she classical music festivals and outdoor operas in the summer to hold.
The Château de Compiègne is another restored castle that three different museums has including the museum of transport, which exhibits the history of cycling road trips to show the first electric and steam engine vehicles, prototypes and some very rare objects on the screen.
Still Chateau de Thoiry is definitely a great and fun days out for all the family with something for everyone including the youngest to enjoy and is home to what was the first wild animal safari park in Europe. It also has the only interactive maze in the world! Plus you can tour the castle guides in historical costumes and see the unique solar calendar in the garden where the castle is transparent during the equinox
So why not a trip to one of these incredible architectural wonders and have one day to remember with a picnic in the grounds. Make sure you choose a dry day to make the best of it, but do not forget that most of these castles and chateaux close at least one day per week, normally on a Monday or Tuesday!
