There are plenty of songs about women, Waltzing Matilda to Sting's classic Roxanne. There are lots of songs about cars, from Surrey with the Fringe on Top of the Beach Boys' Little Deuce Coupe. There even songs about animals. Everything from the old gray Mare is not what she had to Me and You and a dog named Blue.
But how many There are songs about home appliances? Not much, unless you buy the phone.
The phone is immortalized in songs of bluesmen, torch singers, rap stars and pop divas. It all makes sense. Alexander Graham Bell's musical instrument of its kind. The first prototype phone rang with a cacophony of bells and chimes. Today, people download a favorite Blacked-Eyed Pea several Grammy for their personal ringtone. With the advent of the push phone, phone beeped actually a 7-digit number. My grandmother telephone number was, strangely enough, Mary had a little lamb. No joke.
So let's pause a beat and not our own musical tour of classic tunes phone.
The Blues
Let We start at the beginning, in the bayou. There, Mississippi Fred McDowell wrote a sad song that was covered by everyone from the Rolling Stones to Randy Travis. Jesus on the Mainline. The song dates from a time when people shared party lines and phone tapping was the closest thing a lonely heart had an internet chatroom. Jesus in the song is famous on the "Mainline." Moving to the war years, Glen Miller and his orchestra illuminated the year 1940 with a swinging big band number on a phone. Pennsylvania 6000-5000. Back in the days when phone numbers are letters. Nostalgic, huh?
Rockabilly
Phasing in the year 1960, Chuck Berry wrote a song that rose to the top of the charts on a tortured soul playing phone tag with a six years old. The lyrical lament was sung by Johnny Rivers. "Long distance information, give me Memphis, Tennessee … Marie is only six years old, information, and try to put it to me in Memphis, Tennessee." You want to cry, right?

In the 70's, Blondie's Debra Harry beckoned us to her anytime day and night. Operators are standing by. A decade earlier, the British singer Petula Clark that same siren call. "Maybe it's too late, "her song goes", but just call me. Call me and I will be around. "
Classic Rock
Bands like Steely Dan Rikki warned not to lose that number. And reminded us that Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman still on the line. When is this guy gonna get off? The rest of us need to call.
Comedy
The phone was still in many comedy albums. Country
These days, the country artist Toby Keith sings about a trip to Mexico, where neatly divided his time between Tequila and phone calls.

Indie
Indie band Lemon Sun continues the musical trend in which demand telephone, You Alive? That's pretty much the extent of the texts. Very postmodern. Very deep.
R & B
Today, pop divas Beyonce and Lady Gaga tag team a tune called simply, Telephone. Lady Gaga explains the deeper meaning, "That is my fear – that the phones ringing and my head ringing. Whether a phone or is just the thoughts in your head, that is another fear. "Lady Gaga is afraid phones. Who knew? And hey, would Beyonce answered her head! It's about the ring from her shoulders.
So The next time you use your phone, show some respect. After all, when was the last time someone wrote a song about you?
