Holmegaard Glass Factory

History
The home of the famous glass factory Holmegaard products lies in Fens Mark (part of Holmegaard). The company was launched in 1823 when Count Christian Danneskiold-SAMSE petitioned the Danish king for permission to build a glassworks at Holmegaard Mose (Holmegaard Bog). He died before authorization was granted. But after his death, when permission was finally awarded his widow, Countess Henriette Danneskiold-SAMSE pursued the project and began production in 1825 green bottles, to proceed to glass table in her first decade.
Many of his early work was derivative and inconsequential, but between the years 1930 and 1980 fortunes were transformed by the designs of Jacob E. Bang (1899-1965), Per Ltken (1916-1998), and Bang's son, Michael (1944-2002).
Today the company is known for its high quality products of Danish design.
The Ltken Era
Danish glass manufacturer Holmegaard Per Ltken worked on from 1942 until his death in 1998, creating some of the finest pieces of the plant and all-time classics such as "Idelle" series, "Ships glasses" and "Provence" bowls.
The work of each Ltken is still high appreciated, particularly in Scandinavia, and Denmark and Sweden in particular.
The arrival of Ltken at Holmegaard marked a new beginning in the history of the plant, which thriving once again after several years of suffering. His aesthetic creations, in timeless design, fit the fashion of the 1960s Denmark, and his creations were a big success in the ten years and the year 1970.
