History

1960

Before the creation of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders (DCC), the football team Cheer Squad was a male-female group called CowBelles & Beaux. The group made its debut in 1960 sideline. Local high school students from the team. It was typical of other cheerleading teams throughout the year 1960, rarely gets much attention. At that time, cheerleading was more about, as its name implied, exhorting the public for their support for the team show. Seeing the cheerleaders was rarely a reason for watching football at the moment. In 1969 it was decided that the cheerleaders need a new image and the decision was made to the male cheerleaders drop and select an all-female team from the local high school cheerleaders in the Dallas-Fort Worth. At this time the name CowBelles and Beaux was dropped and the team was Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. [Quote necessary]

1970

The preparation for the 1970 season, Cowboys manager Tex Schramm decided to cheerleaders image attendance boost to change. In the first major change was to make a selection, all female and the uniforms and style of cheerleading and dance routines for more direction as lower secondary school or college cheerleading squads to change. The ten local high school cheerleaders who were selected for the 1970 season were also involved in the task of completely redesigning a of uniforms and creating new dance style cheer routines under the direction of Dee Brock and with the help of the current choreographer. In 1971, the qualifying rules changed so that not only local female cheerleaders to compete for a spot on the team, but also the high school drill team officers. Then in 1972, was Texie Waterman, a New York choreographer, engaged and in charge of auditions and training a new female team that everything would be over 18 years old, searching for attractive appearance, athletic ability and raw talent as artists. And since 1972 the selection consisted of adults is allowed the opportunity to re-redesigning the uniforms to introduce more revealing sexy look closer to what you see today. [Citation needed]

whats so special about the cowboys cheerleaders?

every football team in the NFL has cheerleaders, but it seems that the Cowboys cheerleaders are the only ones recognized, they are the most glorified and ive just wondering why.

While they were not the first NFL team have cheerleaders, they were the first to be "labeled" by the national TV audience in 70 years. They had sexy uniforms with the Cowboy's colors and logos aligned, while other teams still used college cheerleaders. TV cameras focused on the Dallas cheerleaders during games, which helped the exposure and started a large base of fan appeal. The gates opened for them as soon they were seen on the covers of magazines in the 70's TV variety shows and a made-for-TV movie was made for them in 1979. Other NFL teams attended the Cowboy's idea, as The Bronco's Pony Express in the late 70's. The Cowboys cheerleaders were a reference point since that time and many still point to them as # 1.
