There are two (2) types of percussion instruments part of the drums:
1. 1. Drums
A drum is made from the following components:
* The Shell – the size of the drum Shell and the materials from which it was made a major impact on the sound or tone produced.
* The Drum Heads or Skins – a drum has a head on the top and another on the bottom, firmly attached to the drum shell, so when hitting them creates a vibration.
* The rims and lugs – the wheels are metal rings attached to the drum skins on the shells. Lugs are screws that secure the wheels and thus the heads attach to the shell. These can be removed or the heads of the drums to spin tunes.
1. 2. Cymbals
The jaws are the other important component of the drums.
* Cymbals are thin circular disk made of a variety of metals including copper, bronze and silver. When struck, creating different types of cymbals shimmering and bright sounds.
* Cymbals are made from the bell and body. Each component provides a unique and distinctive sound.
The components of a DRUM KIT – A standard drum kit includes the following drums and cymbals:
Bass Drums
* The largest and deepest in the drum kit. It played with the foot using a foot pedal, also known as kick drum.
Toms
* There are three toms on a standard drum kit. The symptoms can be mounted on the bass drum (toms mounted) or on a stand or rack (rack toms). They can also be placed on the floor and this is known as floor toms.
Snare Drums
* This part plays a very important role. It differs from other drums, because a group of coiled wires (snares), which is stretched across the bottom head.
Hi-hat
* Composed of two basins, a stand and a foot pedal that produces different sounds in the set-up.
Crash & ride cymbal
* The crash cymbal comes in many different sizes that are used to a loud, crashing sound it. They are usually used to change or accents in the music to give.
* The ride cymbal is the heaviest and largest of the basins. This is played in a constant rhythm with the music.
Hardware
