25 years collecting Doll
The past 25 years have seen enormous changes in the collectible doll industry. Until then, collectors only had antique dolls, or newer children dolls to add to their collections. Because relatively few "new collectibles" to purchase the market on this "playing with dolls" and antiques was vibrant and exciting.
There were many doll shows all across the country, visiting one would find three types of dolls available, antique dolls, rescued discarded play dolls, and booths with dolls makers. Doll makers were many, their work, ranging from stunningly awful.
Flea markets also found pop sellers mostly of the "discarded child doll type, and many collectors frequently searched for collectible dolls. At the time, which took up dolls were from the Chatty Cathy family, Chrissie and Velvet family, Patti Playpal types, Vogue, and of course Barbie.
With the rise of the 'Ashton Drake Gallery "dolls, followed by many mass-produced porcelain dolls by many other companies, all with limited editions, artist's renderings and much publicity in the media, many collectors changed direction and started this new dolls to purchase.
This new collector market was huge for a number of years. People scrambled to complete sets of dolls and puppets of some pop artists to find. The market for older vinyl "designed to play dolls" softened considerably during this period.
Homebased porcelain doll studio, where you could taking lessons you will learn how to make your own doll was very popular during this time.
A quarter century later, many dolls that were so popular, are now on the secondary market. Due to the market is flooded, so that at the time of manufacture and so many collectors jump on the bandwagon, the secondary market is now flooded with these dolls. The value of many has fallen due, particularly Ashton Drake Dolls.
Other collectible porcelain dolls that were mass produced for the most part worth only a fraction of what was paid for them initially. The biggest reason is the fact that these dolls are still produced, the quality is much improved, and prices have fallen. What reason would someone have to buy an older!
The market for real antique dolls are still strong, and investments seem to sound. As the years end, it is harder and harder to find antique dolls unless they directly from another collector's private collection. This keeps prices high. Unlike to modern dolls, there are only so many antiques to go around!
