Hair transplant surgery – Pros & Cons

Depending on a number of very important factors, hair transplant surgery or one of the best decisions you will ever make or between the worst. Today we go to the pros and cons of surgical hair restoration, hair plugs, or transplant euphemistically called to discuss. In fact, the more accurate description is "her with autologous skin graft." This is because the actual procedure involves the harvesting areas of the skin of a hairy part of scalp (donor) and move it to a bald area (receiver) from the same person. Skin grafts between genetically identical twins than anyone else does not work.

The technique of moving hair-bearing skin tissue grafts from one part of the scalp to another dates back to at least 50 years. In the year 1950 a pioneering surgeon by the name of Dr. Norman Orentreich began experimenting with the idea of willing patients. Orentreich's pioneering work demonstrated a concept known as donor dependence or identity of the donor, which means that its influence skin grafts harvested from the scalp of the area outside the pattern of hair loss continued to viable, even though the grafting had moved into areas previously Gone Bald produce.

During the next two decades, a hair transplant gradually evolved from a curiosity into a popular cosmetic procedure, mainly in balding men of late middle years. In the years 1960 and 1970 practitioners including Dr. Emmanuel Marritt Colorado, Dr. Otar Norwood, Dr.. Walter Unger showed that its restoration could be feasible and cost effective. A standard of care is developed, which in experienced hands, allowed for a reasonably consistent results.

Currently the most widely used technique in the use of relatively large grafts (4mm – 5mm in diameter) that were individually removed from the donor site by round punches. This tend to the occiput scalp resembles a field of Swiss cheese leave significantly reduce the yield that was available for transfer to the bald areas on top and in front of the scalp of the patient.

During several sessions surgical grafts were placed in defects that had arisen in the receiving area (bare area) using smaller punch tools. After healing, the patient returned for follow-up sessions in which implants were placed in and between the previous transplants. Because of the relative roughness of this technique, the results were often quite clear and the patient was left to walk around with a doll like her appearance, particularly noticeable in the frontal hairline, especially on windy days. Such patients tended to be quite limited in the way they could style their hair, and because of the dissipation donor extraction method, many people ran out donor hair long before the process could be completed.

In the 1980's hair transplant gradually from the use of larger punch grafts evolve into smaller and smaller mini and micrografts. Minigrafts were used behind the hairline, while one and two hair micrografts were used to approximate a natural transition from forehead to her. Donor site management also evolved from round punch strip mining to harvest — a much more efficient technique. Pioneers in this field were experienced surgical practitioners such as Dr. Dan Didocha, Dr Martin Tessler, Dr. Robert Bernstein and others. The concept of creating a more natural look still further developed in the 1990s with the advent of follicular unit extraction (FUE), first proposed by the gifted Dr. Robert Bernstein, and Bernstein and Rassman described in 1995 publication "Follicular Transplantation."

The year 1990 also brought new instruments into the mix, such as the introduction of the binoculars or 'stereoscopic' microdissection. Stereoscopic microdissection, the surgeon to clearly see where one ends and another begins hair follicle. As the 1990s progressed, many transplant surgeons shifted from the use of larger grafts in favor of one, two and three hair follicular units.

Although very useful in the hairline region, such as micrografts "were not always optimal in the density behind the re- hairline. So even after several sessions, the final outcome of micro-graft transplant only the scalps tend to look rather thin and wispy. Perhaps of even greater importance, the decomposition of a donor strip completely micrografts risked a greatly reduced conversion efficiency. Here's why.

Let us assume that we start with two donor strips its load-bearing tissue from two similar patients. Two surgeons are each dissect a single donor strip, but the first surgeon just wants to parse in one and two hair micrografts, while the second surgeon dissects micrografts only enough to place in the hairline, making larger three, four, five and six grafts available for placement behind the hairline. At the beginning each donor strip contains 1000 hairs. Both surgeons In theory, ending with 1000 viable hair available for transplantation, regardless of how the tissue was decompose. Unfortunately, the reality not quite work out that way.

Every time the donor tissue is cut by cutting the risk of a follicle occurs. Sections of hair follicles are commonly known in the industry — Christmas trees because they lack viable hair roots. In short, a more robust terminal structure, they produce thin or fine hair or no.

This is a problem for several reasons, but first and foremost, it is a problem because the act of hair does not "create" new hair. The process moves viable just from the back of her scalp to the front.

And because there is a fixed supply of permanent donor hair that is not sufficient to secure the area of demand to fill, it is inherently counterproductive to the limited supply reduction through a technique know relatively poor returns. The problem is solved by the careful use of FUE / micrografts recreated in the hairline and larger grafts behind the hairline. Refinement was met at the hairline with the appropriate density behind the hairline zone. If any of these factors missing from the equation the result is a dysaesthetic hair restoration. Either the result looks thin and fuzzy (micrografts only) or pop-hair looks like (large grafts only). So now we can begin to see why the size and strategic placement of each graft is a very important consideration in hair transplantation surgery.

Several other potential pitfalls of hair transplant surgery, graft compression, deception, misangulation, abused and graft donor site injury. Graft compression is done by trying to insert too big of a donor graft in a hole too small of a customer. If the donor is carefully mounted to the receiver hole and then the tissue it can literally 'squeezed'.

To see how this works, to extend the fingers of your left hand open and wrap the fingers of your right hand around the middle of your left hand. Just like your fingers squeezed closer together, the hair in a compressed graft ultimately closer together than they were intended by nature. This lends an odd or tufting an unnatural appearance to the hair.

Misplaced grafts to produce hair that ends in a direction contrary to expand what was intended. Again, this behavior creates a strange, unnatural — And hard to style – head of hair. Misangulation, rather like describing a misguided delusion that her graft produces an angle that does not correspond to the way hair is supposed to grow. Again, the result is hair that just does not look right no matter how it is combed.

Misuse of grafting usually involves transsecting either a follicle (Cutting off the root) or dessicating (drying out) the tissue. Graft wrong typically occurs first in less than experienced surgical hands.

Donor City damage figuratively represents decimation of the entire Amazon rainforest to harvest a couple dozen plants use to decorate a neighborhood street. There Few things are more aesthetically demoralizing then walk around with a partially completed hair transplant — knowing that there are not enough donor hair available for the job because your donor site is exhausted.

Your donor hair is a precious resource. Treat as solid gold. It's everything you have and all you got to a process of hair transplantation complete. Do not waste a single follicle.

So from this we can start some of the major pitfalls and risks of transplantation to. As we see, the risks are mainly aesthetic — which means the chance of damage is usually cosmetic, not medically. The scalp of most healthy people is very well supplied with blood, and in the setting of transplantation, scalp infection and / or other medically relevant scalp complication is quite rare.

For those individuals considering transplantation surgery is essential to equip yourself with good solid information. The internet is a good place to start. Visit trusted online sources. A good start would be visiting the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons are. Another reasonable objective source is hair transplantation network. David Tse is a strong educational website called Hair Site. There Medline is always that acts as a clearinghouse for all medical research, including hair transplantation. Those who publish on pubmed.com are often the highest caliber in their field.

Once you've gathered information from online sources can be the next step to contact the office of the surgeon himself. Take your time. Let no You talk in the operation until you are finished. Keep your money in your wallet and your donor hair behind your ears until you really willing to both commit to the task at hand.

Talking with actual patients. If possible, a visit with a patient or two restored in person. Many patients will not quite ready to visit you if she is happy with their results. Plan to have at least one personal consultation with any surgeon you are considering. Do not be afraid to travel. You do not have to go outside the United States for its recovery. But if you live on the West Coast or East Coast you should not be limited to its surgeons in your immediate vicinity. It's your hair for God's sake! Do not let geography be a factor in the decision.

Ask each candidate surgeon specific questions like: Can you give me pictures of patients who started my degree of hair loss? How close can I get a full head of hair? What are The total cost for me to get there? Not only the price per graft, or the price per procedure, but the cost to me of where I am where I want to be. What we are talking about operations, and over what period? What is your policy on the touch-up work? What part of your practice you have to pay for corrective surgery? Can I take pictures of patients you have corrected? These last two questions are very useful because its surgeons who are adept at correcting other people's mistakes are generally less likely to own blunder.

There is one key take-home lesson from all this. The most important criterion in predicting a good result for hair transplant surgery is not the patient, but surgeon. In hair transplantation, art is just as important as science. You have access to real excellence in the hands of experts like Dr. Dan Didocha, Dr. Robert Bernstein, Dr. Bradley Wolf, Dr. Martin Tessler, Dr. Leonard Aronovitz and others. So for those seriously thinking about undergoing transplants, the key is to arm yourself with knowledge first. Take your time. Be 'patient' before someone "Patient". Follow this advice and the chances are that eventually you happier now than after your hair transplant are.

How do I keep her American Girl doll beautiful?

I have the American Girl doll Julie and I can keep her hair nice, but it always ends the type of complex species. Does anyone know a good way I can fix this? (It's just the very ends)

Brush the ends with a wet Combe (not brushing) does this every day. If this fails, try gently brushing her hair so her hair can not. And if that doesent work try tying her hair in a ponytail and brush it occasionally. Hope I helped and good luck with it!
