Where can you ride an old steam-powered merry-go-round for a nickel?
Not many places!
I know of one. On Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska.
Harold Warp's Pioneer Village tribute to the progress of America. Then he made a fortune on his invention Plastic (Flex-O-Glass – for poultry and house windows in winter to protect the house and windows doors), he started buying a lot of things.
All kinds of things.
A fire station. Buffalo Bill's Saddle. Cars. Hat pins. A Pony Express Station. A pump organ. Dolls. Oh, yes, and a steam-powered carousel. More than 50,000 things.
Displays, including the transportation exhibit, in chronological ranked order. He started the process with the years 1830 and went to the year 1960. More or less. That is the great lines, though. Some items go farther back and some are newer.
Tracking the evolution of a kitchen from the 1830s to the 1950s.
Check out an old country store, complete with its merchandise.
During the summer you can attend a short Sunday service in the first church was built in 1884 Minden.
Ponder over 500 agricultural tools in order of their development, including John Deere's first team.
Check out the "See-Thru" beehive.
See how firefighting went from a handcart to the modern fire truck in the fire station.
In Home Appliance Building, you can see washing machines and refrigerators have evolved through the decades.
There are plenty of collections: dolls, toys, hat pins, buttons, walking sticks.
See a locomotive, a galley and the train depot.
Everything is. On 20 acres of Pioneer Village there are 25 buildings full of with clutter.
There's so many things to see that your second day free!
There is also a motel and camping at Pioneer Village makes it a great road trip destination.
Pioneer Village is at 138 E. Hwy 6, Minden, Nebraska. They are Open every day except Christmas.
