Writing in Retirement is an ideal way to share life experiences with your loved ones
Long before you retire, you dreamed of becoming a writer. You're not alone. The Gallup Organization shows that 81% of mature adults dream of a book.
You've never tried more than basic writing letters required by your career, perhaps a report, even a subsidy. Now finally, as a pensioner you have the time to fulfill your long cherished dream, retirement writing data. But the task seems a little overwhelming. You agonizing over how best to start.
Parts of the highlights of your life can be most rewarding for either a beginner or advanced writer. It is a gift from your loved ones and good friends are always welcome. Crafting a memoir is an ideal way to venture into the joys of retirement to write.
Many wanna-be authors find that creating an autobiography is a relatively easy way to begin to write their experiences. It is not the question of the formality of a novel or play script. The subject, if handled with complete objectivity, the need to develop a plot. And it's a comfortable way to reveal your deep-seated opinions and emotions.
Integrity and objectivity
After the unpleasant revelations in recent years of fabrications and distortions in some best-selling memoir, it is essential that all efforts be made to remain objective and fair when you do a recount family histories, other characters in your story and describe write about your own perceived performance.
Over time, the human mind tends to forget unpleasant details. You can distort the description of a person or a relationship when seen strictly from your own point. Therefore it is imperative that you as a memoirist reach for those first-hand knowledge of the period, event or people write about you.
You should also remember that the process of selecting people and events for your memoirs is very subjective. There's no real way to bias other than to make a concerted effort to strive for objectivity to overcome. Expert memoirist Lawrence P Gouldrup, PhD, writes: "As we experience life, we mentally distinguish between these events and personalities that are insignificant trivia and those who are important and memorable for us …. we continue our own personal experiences into view by seeing events and people in certain patterns. "
That does not mean that to seek a balance and precision must The memoirist not add greater depth and meaning to an incident by adapting its impact. Or a situation provoked joy, sadness, anger or increased awareness of the writer humanized the story and invites the reader to empathize with him / her. Getting Started
While remembering and exploring the relevant experiences of your life like an insurmountable task at first, I have advised a number of successful memoirists to one hour or so each day spend for one week and sit quietly and reaching back for important reminders.
Clear your mind completely of distraction, as you would if you meditate. Going back for special family events, dinners, vacations, holidays, etc. The memory of a unique piece of clothing or a dress grab absolutely loved when six years old can make great memories of the special event that you wore it to activate. A favorite family food tradition, even the color of your house, perhaps the first day of school. There are so many memories that combine to help the overall theme and story line of your book.
Shaping your story
The next step before the completion of the inventory and sit down to write is to define your target audience. Ask yourself these important questions. Is this a book only available to friends and family? Or are you planning to widely market the book? Are you targeting a specific age group who is familiar with the period of your story? Is your intended audience composed of members of one sex?
A second important consideration is the viewpoint from which you write. Do you Plan a family history which you only have one of the many cogs in the wheel? Whether you are framing the story around your own experiences and making yourself the focal point of the piece? The viewpoint from which you write must be determined before a word goes into the computer.
All these problems must be reflected in the way you intend forgotten your story and before you face your blank computer screen. When ready to prepare well and answer these fundamental questions, you may find that the actual writing the memoirs of the proverbial "piece of cake.
Researching and preparing the memoirs can be done rather easily because the subject is so you know. You write about YOU, and once you master to do with balance and objectivity and even a degree of detachment, you will normally exercise a great launch pad to find future success as an author. It is an ideal step to crafting either fiction or nonfiction in the future.
