A Brief History Of Mattel
When you think of Barbie, you think of Mattel as the manufacturer and the owner of the product. However, not many people know the origin Mattel is and how it came to producing their best-selling Barbie. Based on revenues, Mattel is the largest toy company in the world. They produce high quality toys with different brands as Hot Wheels, Matchbox cars, Barbie dolls, board games, and they even tried producing video game consoles back in the early 80's.
The Mattel trademark origin is derived from the names of its founder, named Elliot Handler and Harold "Matt" Anderson. The names Matt and Elliot were combined and it ended with The mentioning Mattel. As Elliot Handler wife, Ruth Handler, was president of the company she founded the Barbie product line, which was a great success for the company. In fact, 80% of the profits came from Mattel Barbie sales.
In his early days, Mattel originally produced picture frames and dollhouse accessories. Following the success of doll house business lines, focused on the Mattel toy manufacturing and became publicly owned in 1960. During 1960, Mattel purchased small toy companies linked toy product lines produced. In 1966, Mattel bought a small manufacturer of low quality plastic bread that was used for the manufacture of new types of products formed from plastic.
Because of the molded plastic technology, Mattel was able to create an innovative toy car parts made toy cars develop their roles further and smoother. Because this, Mattel opened a new line of toy cars called Hot Wheels. To date, Hot Wheels are still very popular. With different designs and high quality toys, Hot Wheels cars were one of the hottest selling toy cars in the world.
In 1987, Mattel distributed the NES or Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe. During that time, Nintendo did not have a European office and because of this, the beginning of the European versions of NES were called the Mattel version. Later, Nintendo opened its offices in Europe and spread the NES version. However, the only difference between the consoles, the NES Mattel or branding plaque on the face of the entertainment console.
Mattel was also responsible NES for distributing products in Canada. However, a lawsuit resulted in making the sole distributor of the Nintendo NES line in North America and the co-branded with Mattel was stopped.
In 1993, Mattel merged with Fisher-Price (also a famous toy company) and purchased Tyco Toys, which was greater at the third toy manufacturer at that time. The Toy manufacturer Mattel trademark were bought by Mattel.
