12 Play 4th quarter
The album that never was. If "12 Play 4th Quarter" leaked over before the intended release date R Kelly decided to scrap the project and in the studio to go to new tracks together "Untitled" record release. It was a pity, because "4th Quarter" was one of R. Kelly 's most concise, fluid and best releases since his original "12 Play." No guests at all, "4th quarter "was a slow, hazy walk through R. Kelly 's always libidinous spirit, filtered through his love of new auto-tuning. The album flowed like an old-school R & B plate and was not full of filler and guest spots like many hip-hop and R & B albums today. Some of the tracks from "fourth quarter" made their way to "Untitled" but some of the best tracks "Playas lonely" and "Skin" never cut.
Happy People / U Saved Me
After the huge success of the comeback "Chocolate Factory" and the hit "Iginition (Remix)" It seemed R. Kelly 's legal problems were doing nothing delaying its creative output, especially when the double album "Happy People / U Saved Me" came just one year later. Criticism of the release as R. Kelly trying to repentant watch amid his legal problems, "Happy People" is a song dedicated to Kelly's favorite dance past tense of "stepping", a Chicago-bred luxury style of slow to mid-tempo dance. "You saved me" is a religious album of gospel music targeted to surrender to the Lord, faith and prayer. Obviously this was not the R. Kelly fans were used to and the album did not sell nearly as good as his other releases. Sadly missed out on some of the most fun and creative music R. Kelly has ever made. Hopefully in the future people will see it as the classic that it is unconventional.
Double Up
A ridiculous, overblown, hilarious album, "Double Up" Found R. Kelly mixing rap-club jam guesting ("Get Dirty", "I'ma Flirt") with funny, metaphor-laced love tracks ("The Zoo," "Sweet Tooth") with his always funny story songs ("Same Girl", "Best Friend") in a 17-track album that long flowed surprisingly well and with little filler. Few artists can pull a record as fun and varied as R. Kelly did on "Double Up." The only misstep Kid Rock is guesting "Rock Star" found Kelly jumping on the already played out rap-rock hybrid. There's something for everyone on "Double Up" about riding the rails around in your tricked out with custom Benz Mercedes Benz lover on late-night jam tracks to check on the borderline stupid of your messages on the day after a night on the town.
