The Wizard of Oz Turns 70 – Oz Collecting Celebrity Autographs & Movie Posters
If there was ever a time that Oz fans were vilified for their passion, this week as Oz and the world celebrates 70 years ageless wonder. For those of us who grew up watching this magical event once a year …
I always have a magician been a fan of Oz, it's probably my favorite movie of all time. But, maybe I never really understood the true mystic, magic behind this masterpiece 1939 until two years ago when my daughter was just one year old. I will never forget the Lion (Bert Lahr the sympathetic) burst from the woods with a cowardly persona disguised by a false harassment. Little Anna's eyes were as wide as they could get fixated on these hairy, unknown character. She was mesmerized as I was more than 40 years ago with my first viewing Oz. This film really took you to inside, as a physical experience of the "Yellow Brick Road".
This week to celebrate this historic event was one shot in high theatrical runs of Oz definition in nearly 400 cities. And, this wizard hits stores on September 29 a new remastered in Hi-Def DVD and Blu-ray.
As a collector of original vintage movie Wizard of Oz memorabilia in the first inning was my passion. And 25 years later the most popular of all my categories on my website vintage treasures. From signed photos Oz cast members from the original movie posters, these are examples of Oz treasures collectors can not get enough of. To give you an example of the need for original vintage Oz memorabilia. Last week an authentic signed photo in the character of the Good Witch Glinda "sold for over $ 11,000.
Oz and signature gatherers a signed photo of Oz character Glinda is very scarce, as only one other has ever surfaced on the market before auction last week. Other scarce Oz signed photos Frank Morgan as the Wizard (sold for over $ 10,000), Judy Garland as "Dorothy" (selling for over $ 20,000) and Bert Lahr as the "Lion" (Sells for over $ 10,000). The original movie posters to sell more than $ 50,000. However, since an original Wizard of Oz movie poster one sheet never surfaced in the market, a value exceeding $ 100,000 would be no surprise. Therefore, if you are a collector of Oz memorabilia, you have good taste, not to mention wise investment intuition.
Other events this week include a balloon 71/2-story that began touring the country since the start May 13 in Kansas City, Kansas, stop Thursday at New York's Tavern on the Green. The gala, Judy Garland's daughter Lorna Luft, surviving Munchkins and Ashanti, who plays Dorothy in the New York City Center production of The Wiz. All this and a yellow brick carpet, too.
Also to celebrate turning 70 this week Oz Ashanti light the Empire State Building – Emerald City Green, of course. All this in remembrance of what many believe is the best movie ever produced. Just think, 70 years later, with all the technology and Hollywood talent, not as close.
