Baptism Dress Wrinkles – How to get them out safely
When you first unpack your baptism christening gown or outfit, you see something you did not expect … wrinkles! Perhaps because the dress is brand new and came in a small box or maybe it's been stored in the cabinet preservation. Anyway, you need to get it looking nice for your baby's baptism or dedication. Here are some tips to keep in mind before proceeding:
Take baptism dress a professional dry cleaner. This may not be the cheapest solution, but they have the skills and equipment to achieve the desired results. If you absolutely want to yourself, you have a number of precautions. Before proceeding, make sure your hands are clean and free of oils, lotions, makeup, perfume can stain or yellow the garment.
The easiest and safest method is the DIY 'steamy bathroom method. Hang the christening dress in a steamy bathroom for 15-20 minutes and smoothing out the wrinkles by using a clean white cloth or towel. You be surprised how well this works for most fabrics!
If that does not work, you try to iron. Remember that this is not your average iron job. A hot iron can burn and fall of the dress so slowly and use the iron to a cooler environment. First, inspect the dress or outfit all over. Be aware of embroidery, appliques, tiny beads, lace and sequins – all of which could catch or melt under an iron. Turn the garment inside outside so if you mess up, it will not be visible. Use a plain fabric or pillowcase to cover the garment – not iron directly on the garment. Raw silk can be stretched by an iron leaving your garment out of shape or the wrong length. Use caution when using an iron.
A steamboat really a last resort. If you are using a garment steamer, the steamer must keep at least 6 inches away to avoid melting delicate items or creation of water stains. Steamers should not be used on raw silk, as water spots will appear and the yellow dust. Water will bead on many other substances with brilliance, so sparing use of the steamboat.
So do not forget to safely remove wrinkles from your baby's christening gown or outfit, try steaming bathroom first. If that fails, try a low heat setting on your iron turning the dress inside out and using a pillow to protect the delicate fibers. A last resort is to be steamed. Always check the garment a label and follow the care instructions. And of course, all these methods, be careful not to burn yourself with hot steam or a hot iron!
