Greeting cards – The best form of donation
A greeting card is the world's most popular gift for any occasion such as birthday, party, wedding, friendship, love, Father's Day greeting cards, etc. are used to expressing your feelings. A greeting card is an illustrated, folded card with an expression of friendship or other sentiment. Although greeting cards are usually given on special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas or other holidays, they are sent to convey thanks or express other feeling. Greeting cards, usually packaged with an envelope, come in a variety of styles. There are both handmade and mass-produced versions are distributed by hundreds of large and small companies.
Hallmark Cards and American Greetings are the largest producers of greeting cards in the world. Recycled Paper Greetings was the first product on their recycled paper, a much more common practice today to print. In the UK it is estimated that one billion pounds are spent on greeting cards per year, with the average person sending 55 cards per year.
Greeting Cards Categories
In gift shops you can find almost all kinds of cards for every occasion like
1. Standard Greeting Cards
A standard greeting card is printed on high quality paper (such as cardboard), and is rectangular and folded, with a picture or decorative motif on the front. Inside is a preprinted message for the occasion, along with a blank space for the sender of a signature or handwritten message to add. A matching envelope is sold with the card. Some cards and envelopes feature luxurious materials such as gold leaf, ribbons or glitter.
2. Photo Greeting Cards
In recent years, photo greeting cards have gained widespread popularity and come in two types. The first type are photo insert cards in which a hole is cut in the center. Your photo slides in just like a frame. The second type are printed photo cards in which the photo is combined with artwork and printed, usually on a high-end digital press, directly on the face of the map. Both types are most popular for sending holiday greetings such as Christmas, Hanukkah and baby showers.
3. Musical greeting cards
Modern greeting cards are designed to play music or sound when they are opened. They often 3D handmade birthday cards that play songs traditional celebrations such as Happy Birthday To You.
4. E-Cards
Greeting cards can also be sent be electronic. Flash-based cards can be sent by e-mail, and many sites such as Facebook allows you to send greetings. More recently launched services, which you to send greetings to a mobile phone via SMS. Many of these electronic services such as ValenTXT offer open or anonymous chat, for further discussion possible.
History of Greeting Cards
The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the new year, and the early Egyptians, who brought their greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 1400s, handmade paper greeting cards were exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known New Year's greetings from woodcuts in printed form as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were exchanged in various parts of Europe in the early to mid-1400, with the oldest Valentine in existence in the British Museum.

By the year 1850, the greeting card had been transformed from a relatively expensive, handmade and hand delivered gift to a popular and affordable means of personal communication, due largely to advances in printing and mechanization.
Technical developments like color lithography in 1930 propelled the manufactured greeting card industry forward. Humorous greeting cards, known as studio cards, became popular in the late 1940s and 1950.
By the year 1980 there was a thriving market for what were now "alternative" greeting cards, and the name stuck, even if these "alternative" cards changed the appearance of the entire industry.

How long does it take for a greeting card to the UAE to reach California?
I mailed a greeting card to Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (I will accept also a response to emails to Dubai) on Wednesday last week (May 17) by USPS Airmail. When should I expect the greeting card to come:? Answers from people with experience in mailing stuff to UAE would be appreciated) Thanks
If you by courier, such as DHL, UPS, max of 3 days, Express mail by post probably 7-9 days and regular post 15 days or so. That is if you have the right number and the PO Box was given to the appropriate recipient. We get many letters in our mail box wanderings that is not ours and we just keep them or throw them away when there is no way to return them. Hope yours is not one of these.
