Hand-knitting

Hand-knitting is a special case of knitting, which is knitted by hand.

Embroidered T-Shirt Weft-knitted fabrics can be divided into two types: those who) have marginalized (sides and which are tubes where the sides are attached. The former are knitted using "Knitting", while the latter are knitted with "knitting in the round," also known as "knitting in the round".

In flat knitting, the hand-knitter knitting generally from right to left on one side of the fabric, turn work (over), knit right to left and then returned to the starting position. Usually one side of the fabric is considered the right, the one that faces out on tour, the side that faces inwards, towards the body, known as the wrong side. Thus, knitting is knitting one row on the right, then a row on the wrong side, etc. stabbing knitting on the wrong side turned in by such a straight stitch out on the wrong side will appear as a purl on the right, and vice versa. Thus, the uniform jersey fabric requires that the hand-knitter knitting all stabbing on the right, and P all the stabbing on the wrong side. By comparison, garter-stitch fabric is produced when the knitter knitting (or purling) each stitch in each row, regardless of which side is under construction.

In circular knitting, the knitter knits more generally from one side, usually on the right. Circular knitting machines is usually performed on a circular needle, although this is difficult if the radius of the tube gradually shrinks. In such cases, the knitter to resort to a variety of alternative techniques such as double-pointed needles, knitting on two circular needles, [1] M? bius strip-like "magic needle" approach, or careful use of anti-slip stitch knitting or equivalent double knitting knitting the back and front of the tube.

There are almost an infinite number of possible combinations of knit stabbing, the favorites of those collected in stitch treasuries. [2] A piece of knitting begins with the process of casting on (also known as "binding"), which implies that the initial creation of the stabbing on the needle. Different methods of casting on are used for different effects: one may be stretchy enough for lace, while another provides a decorative edge Provisional? cast-ons are used when the knitting will continue in both directions of the cast-on. There are different method of providing "cast" as the "thumb method" (also known as "slingshot" or "long tail" cast-us), which were created by stabbing a series of loops which, when knitted, giving a very loose edge ideal for "picking up stabbing" and knitting a border, "Double needle method" (also known as "knit-on or cable cast-on), each loop on the needle is then" knitted on, that a firmer edge ideal of itself as producing a border, and much more. The number of active stabbing remains the same as throwing up unless stabbing are added (an increase) or removed (a decrease).

Most Western-style knitters follow either the English style (where the yarn is held in the right hand) or the Continental style (which yarn held in left hand). A third but less common method, called combination knitting may also be used.

Once the fabric is ready, the remaining live stabbing "cast off." Casting (or "binding") loops over each of the stabbing, so they can be removed from the needle without unraveling of the item. Although the mechanics are different from the casting, there is a similar variety of methods.

In knitting certain pieces, particularly the larger like sweaters, the final knitted garment will be made of several knitted pieces, with individual parts of the garment knit separately and then sewn together. Seamless knitting, where a whole garment is knit as a single piece, it is also possible. Elizabeth Zimmermann is probably the best known proponent of seamless or circular knitting techniques. Smaller items such as socks and hats are usually knit in one piece on double-pointed needles or a circular needle. (See Circular knitting machines.)

One of the earliest known examples of knitting was finely decorated cotton socks found in Egypt at the end of the first millennium AD. [4] The first knitting Trade Guild was started in Paris in 1527. [5] With the invention of the knitting machine, but knitting "by hand" was a useful but non-essential craft. Similar to quilting, spinning and embroidery, knitting became a social activity.

Hand-knitting has gone in and out of fashion many times in the last two centuries, and at the beginning of the 21st century is enjoying a revival. The industry group Craft Yarn Council of America, the number of women knitters in the United States rose 150% in the age of two years between 2002 and 2004. [6] Although some may say knitting has never really left, it latest reincarnation is less about the making and repairing the 1940and 1950 and more about making a statement about the individuality and the development of an innate sense of community. Moreover, many contemporary knitters an interest in blogging about their knitting, patterns and techniques [7].

There are now numerous groups that are not only increasingly more individually, but also the international education community. Communities also exist online, with blogs that are very popular, alongside online groups and social networking through mediums such as Yahoo groups where people can share tips and techniques, run competitions and share their patterns. More people are finding knitting a recreation and enjoying the hobby with their family. Knit parties are also popular in small and large communities across the U.S. and Canada.

The oral histories of many knitters are collected, and suggest that hand-knitting is often associated with compassion [8]. "I love knit into each stitch is a common refrain.

Knitting particularly large or delicate garments such as sweaters can require months of work, and if present, may have a strong emotional aspect. The so-called curse jersey says the experience that a significant other will break immediately after receiving the knitter of an expensive hand-knitted gift, like a sweater. A significant minority of knitters claiming to have experienced the sweater curse, a recent poll showed that 15% of active knitters say that they are the sweater curse firsthand experience, and 41% believe that a possibility which must be taken seriously. Although sometimes referred to as a "superstition", the sweater curse is not covered in knitting literature as something paranormal.

Hand-knitting is generally relaxed and repetitive, some practitioners have noted that these factors, combined with his compassionate nature, make hand-knit great for meditation or spiritual practice.

Knitting is sometimes recommended in the literature. Knitting and technology can be used as a metaphor, the meditative and spiritual aspects can be highlighted, it can signal different types of domesticity, or it can be used for dramatic irony, as when a seemingly innocent knitter prove lethal and implacable. Examples from the 19th century novels include Madame Defarge thse in Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, in Leo Tolstoy's Anna Makarovna War and Peace, different characters in Jane Austen's novels, and Miss Ophelia in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. Several characters in Virginia Wolff's novels are knitters. In the first decade of the 21st century, knitting was an important element in several novels [16] and even murder mysteries.

Yarn for hand knitting is usually sold as balls or skeins (Hanks), but it can also be wound on spools or cones. Strands and balls are generally sold with a yarn-band, a label that describes the yarn weight, length, dye lot, fiber content, care instructions, suggested needle size, probably gauge, etc. It is normal to the yarn band for future reference store, especially if additional skeins must be purchased. Knitters generally ensure that the yarn for a project comes from a single dye lot. The dye lot specifies a group of strands that were together and so have painted the same color, different strands of dye-parties, even if very similar in color, are usually slightly different and may lead to a visible stripe knitted together. As a knitter buys enough yarn of a dye lot a project to complete, additional strains of the same dye lot may be obtained from other yarn stores or online.

The thickness of the yarn is an important factor in determining the profile, ie, how many needles and stabbing to a particular area for a certain pattern to cover stabbing. Thicker yarns generally require thicker knitting needles, whereas thinner yarns can be knit with thick or thin needles. Hence, thicker yarns generally require less stabbing, and less time to knit up a given garment. Patterns and motifs are coarser with thicker yarns; thicker yarns produce bold visual effects, whereas thinner yarns are best for refined patterns. Yarns are grouped by thickness into six categories: Superfine, Fine, light, medium, large and superbulky, quantitatively, thickness is measured by the number of twists per inch (WPI). The corresponding weight per unit length is usually measured in tex or dernier.

Before knitting, the knitter will typically transform a Hank in a ball where the yarn is shown by the middle the ball, which makes knitting easier by preventing the yarn from becoming easily confused. This transformation can be done by hand or with a device known as a ball winder. When knitting, some knitters merge their balls in jars to keep them clean and tangle with other yarns, the free yarn passes through a small hole in the pot-lid.

The process of knitting has three main tasks: (1) the active (unsecured) must be kept stabbing, so they will not drop, (2) stabbing it should be released sometime after they are protected, and (3) new turns of yarn must be passed through the tissue, usually through active stabbing, making it available. In very simple cases knitting without tools, using only the fingers to do these tasks, but hand knitting is usually carried out using tools such as knitting needles or rigid frames. Depending on their size and shape, the rigid frames are called knitting boards, knitting rings (also called knitting looms) or knitting spools (also known as knitting knobbies, knitting nancies, or Corker). Other tools are used to prepare yarn for knitting, to measure and design knitted garments, knitting or making easier or more comfortable.

I have a hand-knitted sweater thats too big, I can shrink?

A friend knitted me a sweater for my birthday, but they are really big and I was wondering if there was a way to shrink? Maybe by immersion in boiling water? Any suggetions? I really appriciate knitting for me, my friend and apart from the fact too big I really want!

It depends on what kind of yarn that she used. If they use wool or wool will shrink. If it is a wool blend or not, can not shrink. Even though the wool, it will shrink a dodgy proposition, and there is no guarantee the garment will shrink to the proportions you want. Is there a chance you can change using regular methods of sewing? A dart or a gathering here and there? Wear it with a belt? If you take a picture of the jersey, which may make it easier for people to give advice. Good luck
