Holiday Traditions
When the leaves start turning colors and the air is fresher, more and more excited starting my family. These are the signs of autumn, but it also means that the holidays are getting closer! The importance of holiday traditions for our now 20-plus year old children are reflected in their expectations that the upcoming holidays will unfolding exactly as they always have, year after year.
Every Halloween we have at least one batch of caramel apples and a visit by at least 50 people, even though we No more trick or treating. Thanksgiving is not just a one-day event, it lasts all weekend. Our Thanksgiving meal should include the green bean dish, with just the right minimum amount of crunchy toppings and 3 kinds of desserts!
Every year we collect and memories while creating new ones. Remember the year that our golden lab itself contributed to the turkey? Our children certainly never forget it was the highlight of the dinner that year. In the aftermath of the traditional turkey dinner, board games are taken out, they have outgrown decades ago, but a fond memory of holidays past.
If our children have grown and matured their lives become more complicated. I think they look forward to the reliability and fairness of our traditions, it is an anchor in the tumultuous sea of life. I even myself seeking traditions that have defined our family for several years.
Bake cookies on the day after Thanksgiving is something I look forward to. It's a great way to the atmosphere and make the Christmas holidays last a little longer. And of course decorating them is the most fun part! I've included a recipe that works well for small hands as adults. It is a recipe I got from my mother many years ago. (Unfortunately I do not know the source.)
Basic Christmas Cookies Ingredients:
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups flour
Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 ° C. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer. Beat egg and vanilla. Add the flour and baking powder, one cup at time, mixing after each addition. The dough is very stiff, blend last flour in by hand (if dough becomes too stiff, add water, a few drops at a time). Not chill dough. Roll out on a floured surface, light or surface sprayed with cooking spray. Cut. Bake on middle rack for 10 to 15 minutes. Do not let cookies get overly brown. Cool 5 minutes, gently with a spatula, on schedule. Finish cooling for about 15 minutes. Ice and decorate as desired. Comments: Dough can be colored with a few drops of dye. Knead small amounts until the desired color is achieved. For chocolate cookies: Mix 3 grams of melted unsweetened chocolate.
Keep fresh parties on the table a festive serving plate. Look title = "Holiday table "> here for serving suggestions. You never know who might drop by! Even if you are not a baker, you can develop your own family traditions of the simplest and most spontaneous ideas. By all means, let your children help you determine your family traditions to create lasting memories!

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. I'm looking for traditions to establish a new and interesting in my family.
For Christmas my large extended family meets all of my aunts, my grandparents house on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. But Before we set off on Christmas Eve my family (hubby and kids) off all the lights, TV, and all sit together in front of the tree. We just talk and collaborate spend a few quiet minutes before the hustle and bustle of the next day and half began. Then we can each open one small present before we go. On New Years Eve we have videotape the children about the things they remember best from the past year. We ask them questions like what their favorite food, best friend, favorite TV show (we ask the same? 'S per year). When they go out for cake w / grandparents and my husband and I drink champagne together. Instead of making resolutions we talk about what we wanted and what works for us as individuals and as a family and what we can do to improve things that do not work. On New Year's Day, we usually pajamas until at least noon, and a great brunch.
