The Japanese Kimono
The word kimono literally translates to "something worn" and is considered the national costume of Japan since its establishment In the fifth century. The earliest kimono were influenced by extensive cultural exchanges between China and Japan, when Chinese traders introduced traditional clothing known as Hanfu, which were later modified by the history of Japan, resulting in today's modern kimono. Kimono can best be described as a T-shaped, straight lined robe with a collar and a wide full length sleeves that falls to the ankles, made of a single bolt of fabric known as a color, which comes in standard sizes. The kimono consists of four large strips of canvas, two panels of the sleeves, two over the body, and additional smaller pieces that are part of the narrow front and collar.
Kimono are traditionally sewn by hand, and their fabrics are often handmade and hand decorated with silk, silk brocade, silk crepes, and satin weaves known as ninzu. The level of formality ranges from casual to very formal, and in the case of the woman is determined by the pattern, fabric and color. Kimono worn by young women have a longer sleeves and more developed than those of older women, while men usually consist of a kimono worn in subdued colors basic form. Unmarried women traditionally have worn a kimono style known as furisode, which floor length sleeves and is usually displayed on special occasions. Kimono for women are generally similar in size and are adapted to different typing by folding and bending. A kimono that ends at the wrist when arms are lowered is considered an ideal fit.
The process of putting on a kimono is very difficult and time consuming and often requires the help of an assistant. Kimono are wrapped around the body in a precise way from left to right, and are covered by a wide belt known as an obi, tied at the back. Traditional Geta footwear that is called a thonged wooden platform shoes, and socks known as tabi split always worn with the kimono. In recent times kimonos are usually worn by women and occasionally men at weddings, tea ceremonies, or other formal occasions. Professional sumo wrestlers needed to traditional Japanese dress whenever appearing in public to wear can also be seen in kimono. Special courses are available in Japan for fans interested in learning Proper techniques for the kimono. Classes also cover how kimono undergarments and accessories match, choosing the right pattern and fabric of the season or event, and selecting and binding the obi. Kimono are very expensive, with a complete outfit, consisting of clothing, obi, ties, socks, sandals and accessories easily over $ 20,000.

In feudal Japan, what did women wear under their kimonos?
I know there are things that kind of underwear men wear, but I'm not sure what kind of female underwear was at that time and place.
A silk slip was worn underneath the kimono and underwear called susoyoke (meaning dress protection). For how well the Japanese obi tied and biology, there was no need for additional support to the breast as a bra, and I can not think of anything that functioned as panties, and it would not surprise me if they do not have them. Kimonos are a pain to work with and take on and off, and it would be easier to use the bathroom without them. Really fancy kimonos for the wealthy upper class women were often layers upon layers, that's why they are not much to do aside from sitting and writing poetry book or pillow. It was too heavy to walk around a lot!
