Collectibles for Kids: The hidden value
One of the pleasures of youth is to collect things. You may remember in a collection or two when you were young was. A rock collection may have started with one or two beautiful pieces of stone or a shell collection may have started the annual family outing to the beach. You may like dogs or cats and collected pictures and books.
As a parent, you can not understand why kids do the things they collect, but one thing is certain: Children learn about the world around them through these collections. On the first shell or stone that is simply a beautiful object, but from there, the child will want to know what that pink stone is, or what kind animal lived in the small enclosure.
The urge to collect usually begins around age six or seven. While you may not understand the reasons why your child chooses for collecting a particular item, the important thing is to let them do it. At this stage, your child has not understood the concept of a true collectable with a greater value in the future.
How often have you said to yourself: "I wish I still had that model airplanes Mom threw. It would be much worth today? Your child is going to want to play with his or her collection and will not be interested in keeping items in pristine condition.
Many collectors have learned to two of each item, one for viewing or play and the other is still in its original packaging for later purchase. Of course, this can be expensive because you have no way of knowing if the object will increase in value later on the road or if your child will be a long-term interest in the collection of it.

Knowledge
The biggest benefit of your child gets the collection, knowledge of the world around them. A piece of knowledge leads to another, which in turn can lead to a lifelong career. That seemingly insignificant stone or shell could provide the springboard for the next great archaeologist or marine biologist.
Social Skills
Socialize with other children can not easily some children. Collections give your child a chance to meet other children who share similar interests. It can serve as a way to open spaces of communication and help your child to form lasting friendships.
Family Bonding
Maybe any of your collections from your childhood you've been be able to share with your baby. By passing these collections on the next generation, you're not only sharing an object, You're sharing memories. You have saved every piece in your collection for a reason. Often the sentimental value far greater than the monetary value of the object.
Expanding of the Imagination
Your child will make his or her collection hours, but this is more than the simple act of organizing. To your child, will be played. Maybe they have a collection of Barbie dolls and Barbie changes while your little girl's clothes and hair, she begins to learn about fashion or imagines doing all the things that Barbie does.
For a child collections are not meant to sit on the shelf gathering dust. Their collections are meant to be functional. After all, what good is a toy if you can not play with it? There is nothing wrong with having a few items designed to sit on the shelf, but for the most part, let your child decide what they see as valuable and let them play. Who knows where it lead?

What was the best present you ever got for Christmas?
Here is mine. I was 10 years old I think, and wanted a Barbie house more than anything! Remember who me? They had the lift that you pulled a string to raise up and down, and had three floors for fun Barbie, lol! Anyway, Christmas came and I got lots of presents, but no mansion. I was a little disappointed, but not fuss. Well, a little later in the morning my parents asked me to feed the dog in the backyard. I complained a bit, but went anyway, and on my way back inside to see a clubhouse in the driveway. I was so excited! When I opened the door to go, there inside, propped against the wall, stood the Barbie mansion. I will never forget the joy I felt dizzy and how my parents were that pleased me with their surprise.
