Ken Shamrock was the "Gene Simmons' Mma of Marketing Part I
As you can imagine, the world of mixed martial arts fighter sometimes short-lived because of the potential career ending injuries, Win / loss record, and especially a fan recognition. Obviously, if you are injured you can not fight, as You lose more than you win, then the battle is not worth watching, and if nobody is watching how the fans root for you, making your career as an ultimate cage fighter volatile. I think that Ken realized this early on and made sure he did not fall into one of these categories. That is why as you'll see in a moment that fighters today need to look half Ken in the model is to establish itself by promoting its brand to ensure continuing sources of income, where the fighting is done.
For those not familiar with the track record of Gene Let's explore his journey and then compare that to what I see Ken Shamrock to purchase the building. Gene Once established this additional income, he launched what he could with the name of KISS. This would not have been successful if he and the rest of the band was not as passionate about building their brand first. This type of entrepreneurship was Gene's reputation and so did other companies are now touting his own name as the "brand".
Brands like Simmons 'records, Gene Simmons' Rock School, and recently popular, Gene Simmons Family Jewels reality TV show. He had the foresight to fickled share of fame and that they understand the ups and downs and other successes that he developed has ensured him a permanent salary 35 years later. Ken Shamrock's likeness in his rise to fame began as Gene Simmons' did. Neither was any form of family wealth. Both began as paupers in the street. As read in his biography page on kenshamrock.com
… "When thirteen-year-old Kenneth Kilpatrick first came to the group Bob Shamrock home in sunny Susanville, California, his future is not rosy. He had the fatherless in a poor district in Georgia, where he learned life lessons on the streets has grown. "
"Bob had raised over six hundred boys in his house, and his methods were both unique and effective. In response to the feuds that often arise when proud boys sleep under the same roof, he offered them an unorthodox method of resolution. If both parties were ready, he let them throw on boxing gloves and duke it out in the backyard. "
With a obvious encouragement Bob Shamrock Ken Shamrock went on a mission to sharpen his passion for the craft of fighting. My recollection of his first entry into the battle scene at the first Ultimate Fighting Championships. This first illegal bare knuckle Street Fight aired on pay-per-view at the beginning of a fanatical culture and contemporary legitimate mixed martial arts Sport launched. From this beginning, Ken showed us a different perspective on fighting, submission / wrestling style.
While most of the competitors that night were from different disciplines such as karate, kempo, and even boxing, Ken's fighting style was eloquent and precise. This is what it at first stand out from the crowd of other fighters. When asked in a recent interview on thegarv.com Do not attribute his fights that night or even the winner of that tournament, Royce Gracie in the Ultimate Fighting catapult success achieved.
"I think what the standard really was what you said, was Teila Tuli teeth flew out into the front row. I think if you would have had a fight, first fight, and it was Royce Gracie and Art Jimmerson, and they would have seen that the first people would have crapped all over the place. They would only be turned the TV. Because that is not what people were looking. They were looking for exactly what happened with the teeth flying. What happened first set the tone for the MMA, what it is now. Whether Royce Gracie did not was irrelevant, I believe. I think because the first fight was so brutal and so real, that is what paved the way for MMA. "
Ken was at that point making a name for himself in Japan fighting for a group called Pancrase. Pancrase was the next stage for the rise in popularity with MMA pay-per-view promotions with Ken Main Events.
