Location Milan

Milan the best place for a family vacation!
A visit to Italy is complete without traveling to Milan, the international hub of Italy fashion that would make the French jealous, culture that the European life and commerce that crowns this city the capital standard Rome embodies. Milan, located in the northern region of Lombardy, has an eclectic history of rulers (Roman, Spanish, Austrian, etc.) due to its proximity to the rest of Europe and is therefore much more independent and vibrant multicultural than the southern Italian peninsula.
There are few places in the world where shopping and eating could be considered religious experiences. Milan's boutique-lined streets offer some of the most beautiful in the world and exclusive styles, dominating the cutting-edge of design. Travel to Milan to pamper yourself, but keep a sharp eye for how your outdated (by Milan standards) living room renovation. Brera is the most sophisticated and elite shopping area, centrally located and also home of the Pinacoteca Brera, one of the most coveted museum collections in Europe.
Speaking of consumption, a leisurely dinner of saffron-scented risotto and signature osso buco will surely provide rejuvenation after all that shopping. Make sure you enjoy the local wines of Lombardy, particularly from the Brescia region, which offer an entirely new standard for table wines.
We begin our Milan tour with the Gothic Duomo (Cathedral), whose ground was broken in 1386 under the first duke of Milan, and yet it was only completed in time for the coronation of Napoleon as King of Italy in 1809. With an estimated capacity of forty thousand, the second largest church in Italy, only St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome is bigger. To get an idea of its immensity, Milan Cathedral marble towers 135 and includes more than two thousand marble statues. But despite its size and central location those who seek refuge from the outside world (think me, the center of Milan, hustles and bubbles) can usually step in and a solitary corner. Believe it or not there is a church in Milan this prime location since at least the beginning of the fifth century.
The Duomo architecture and art are certainly worthy of an extended visit. Let us quote from Mark Twain in his famous travelogue Innocents Abroad: "The central one of the five great doors is bordered with a bas-relief of birds and fruits, animals and insects, which are so ingeniously carved out of marble that they seem beings – And The figures are so numerous and the design so complex that one could study one week without exhausting its interest … wherever a niche or a perch can be found about the enormous building, from top to bottom, there is a marble statue, and each image is a study in itself … [And to summarize] They say that the cathedral of Milan is second only to St. Peter's in Rome. I can not understand how it can be second to anything made by human hands. "
Right next to the cathedral, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, nineteenth-century luxury shopping mall named after the first king of united Italy. Just before its completion in 1877 designed the scaffolding fell to his death. Talking about grandiose, the gallery is 640 feet (200 meters) from the cathedral to the Opera House. The arcade is 96 feet (30 meters) high and octagonal glass dome is considerably higher. The Galleria is a great place for shopping and people watching, but bargains can be found elsewhere. If you like the Park Hyatt Hotel is nearby and you could probably "do" Milan with a four-point landing, the cathedral, the Galleria, Hotel and Opera House (below). Not, there is much more to see and do.

Milan locals, help me figure out my move / location .. please!?
First of all I would say … Yes, I am learning Italian, forgive me for now. I'm going to be in Milan soon and have just assured of a place to live. I am told that it takes about two minutes walk from the Duomo di Milano, and so I assume that's a pretty good and very central location. I will be spending my days in Via Tortona study. My questions: 1. I have lived in several cities around the world, when you have to places like New York, Paris or London, which area in these cities would you say Duomo di Milano is the most similar to? 2. How do I get to the Duomo di Milano Via Tortona and every 7 days back? Metro? Walking? Bike? How long does it take? 3. This is a longshot, but if you live in Duomo di Milano, can you tell me everything you could possibly be bothered to write about the area? From shops to health clubs, food .. etc etc Thanks!
Hi, the question n. 1, I can not answer because I've never lived In NY / Paris / London. Question about 2 N, Piazza del Duomo is 2.5 km away from Via Tortona 7: Just 30 minutes walk. You can go by foot, bike, metro (M1 & M2) tram (number 1). Question3 about, you know … You are in the heart of downtown, you'll find everything you want! Hope this can help! Bye bye
