How Special Family Vacations for the Sandwich Generation are

"Summertime and the living is easy" – so said George and Ira Gershwin. There's just something about the warm sun, blue skies, and late at night, that makes us want to ease up, a change of environment, and our day-to-day working world behind.

This summer, even with the high price of gas, Americans take to the roads, hopping planes, trains and boarding for family vacations. As a member of the Sandwich Generation, might feel you're overwhelmed by your responsibilities throughout the year and see this as your best chance to rejuvenate. But how can you, when the demands of your time and energy is still there? Here five tips to help you plan and enjoy your summer vacation, where you can take.

1. You know yourself and your family best. Do you like to create and maintain family rituals? If so, please return to the same vacation spot year after year, enjoying the familiar surroundings and activities. Or, if you prefer to different places and explore new learn skills, you should consider many innovative holidays together. Does your family enjoy chill out and relax or stay busy and active? What is most gratifying – The excitement of the city, the vastness of the sea, the majesty of the mountains or the quiet of your own backyard? Taking your family will take your particular preferences together another time more useful to everyone.

2. Remind yourself to be realistic about your expectations for the holiday and are willing to make compromises. Do not think all of a sudden, family gathering will be a priority for everyone. You may find that each of you will enjoy spending some time alone, do want you want. Just like your family celebrations and holidays often come with their own set of challenges, holidays will not magically solve long term problems in your intimate relationships. Watch your journey as a step in a series and accept that it will be difficult moments and good times.

3. Look at your individual situation and decide what will work for you. If you need some time by yourself, that fits into your schedule from the beginning. If you want to connect with your teens, design excursions that appeal to both of you. If your parents are up to it, plan an intergenerational vacation. Your children will benefit from the spending quality time with their grandparents and it will also have the opportunity to get some free time for yourself.

4. With families across the country, many feel that a summer family reunion an opportunity to return. It's a different experience than seeing each other briefly at weddings, holidays or funerals. Everyone gets together in a holiday setting gives you the chance to the lag time with no distractions. It takes planning in advance, but the rewards can be great for the whole family. You can rediscover your cousin keen sense of humor, appreciate your great aunt wisdom or pleasure in your young nephew. Perhaps your brother has grown up and will pitch in to help, now he sees how difficult it is to care for your parents.

5. Go on holiday is like investing in your emotional bank account. You generate vivid and positive memories that you can do when you need them. "When I feel stressed, I take a deep breath and think how relaxed I was when we spent time on the beach, "Beth related." The children were free to run around in the sand, playing in the water and so much noise if they wanted to without me to appease them. And my parents were so content just sitting in the sun and part of the family fun. It makes me smile just to visualize the scene in my head. "

If you have not already done so, now is the time to plan your own special family time to make – even if only a few days or a weekend camping activities at the local lake. Enjoy the summer and reminders for you and your family to carry the rest of the year.
