Have you ever seen guys wearing scarves and shawls, or in public places – shopping malls, theaters, restaurants, parks, and others – without people looking at them with a playful frown on their face? Chances are, you will one of the five Americans who think that these pieces of the garment are only for ladies.

Oh, you are in for the surprise of your life!

Try browsing through art catalogs and fashion magazines. Scan through the Web pages of a popular men's clothing and fashion accessories or better yet, spend some time just sitting on the bench in the park and you see more and more men wearing scarves and shawls. You see, gone are the days when people laugh at the sight of men wearing these fashionable pieces of clothing.

Unless of course you were wearing of a shawl or scarf in striking pink colors or designs that are uniquely feminine, then maybe you will invite ridicule on yourself. Otherwise, conservative and strongly masculine colored and designed pieces of the garment to do wonderful things with you as a modern cosmopolitan man.

The idea of men with a scarf or a shawl is actually not new. This is because the reason why such garments existed in the first place is that it serves to protect or shield the human body against the bitter cold of the Himalayas. This meant that men and women have this piece developed as a means to protect them against harsh conditions.

This goal is not lost amid Today's seemingly endless fascination for everything fashionable. In places where it is obviously cold, people from all different walks of life and in both sexes, scarves are often used around the exposed torso protection from the cold. These may include the neck and the trunk from the neck down.

In the dry desert communities, that have definite use, too. They are used to protect yourself from extreme heat and the occasional sand storms that can literally blind in one eye. Soldiers, freedom fighters, and other desert men are often depicted or shown with either a scarf or head scarf worn over their shoulders or wound around their necks.

In today's modern universities and higher education, the use of scarves or a certain kind of scarf are closely linked to membership of a defined peer. In these cases, both male and female members of the group the same type and design.

Corporate executives often strut their power and influence with a conservative yet sophisticated wrap. Hollywood actors and matinee idols have made of the scarf as a means to offer their fans a way to force a certain kind of identity with their idols. Kites in the early 19th century wore scarves and other similar clothing as she was the sky.

You see, a scarf or a shawl is not only for women!
Men can enjoy the same kind of elegance and sophistication that fashionable pieces of clothing have done for career women. What men need only go to the barn is the idea that only women and sissies wear a scarf or a scarf. Men must begin to realize how important it is functional and fashionable time, particularly in today's highly competitive social environments.

That said, scarves and shawls known to the warmth and protection while providing modern man allows him to feel good about himself and his faith in the things he does in life. It is time for men to think differently about these practical accessories.
