History
Original Little People
"Safety School Bus" 1959
Little People started in 1950 with The "Looky Fire Truck" and fire three round-headed men (permanently attached to the toy). Following the success of this toy, in 1952 and 1953, Fisher-Price developed the "Super-Jet" and "Racing Rowboat".
Another early precursor of Little People, "Safety School Bus", was introduced in 1959. The set contained a independent school with six figures made of long thin pegs from cardboard tubes wrapped in lithographs simulate clothes. The toy has gained instant popularity and other series soon came out.
"Snorky the Fire Engine" 1960
Little People Play Family
In 1960, Fisher-Price introduces two additional toys with removable figures, "Snorky the Fire Engine" and the "Nifty Station Wagon". The Nifty Station Wagon came with two adults and one child figures figure, so the first "Play Family" was born. Today, the Play Family name is still used throughout Europe instead of the name "Little People". A Nifty Station Wagon in top condition in the box, could command up to $ 600 in toy collectors.

Body Style Variations
Original Little People went through six major styles of the body (base) configurations, and even within each major classification, one or more small variations in style. In 1961, the figures of wood, plastic was used for their vehicles and buildings. A few years later, the typical happy face of the traditional Little People debuted in a straight-body "format. All people have a simple cylindrical body with the female figures only recognizable by the addition of slanted, oval eyes and eyelashes. By 1965, the Little People was a small cylindrical base and a wider cylindrical form for boys and men and an upper conical shape for the girls. Adult women had a sort of hourglass-shaped torso.
Little People Playsets
In 1968, Fisher-Price introduced the first Little People playset, the famous play Family Barn with barn doors that a "moo" sound made when opening. Even now, the figures with plastic bodies instead of wood. Ultimately, the toy included a wide range of play sets, furniture packs, and accessory packages.
In the mid 1970s, Fisher-Price Sesame Street produced the city, with several Sesame Street shops, a bridge with traffic lights and Sesame Street characters such as Bert, Ernie, and the only Little People toys modeled after celebrities – Loretta Long (Suzanne), Roscoe Orman (Gordon) and Will Lee (Mr. Hooper). Shortly after, the Little People Discovery Airport, a hospital and a school also be released. Little People characters had already been produced with plastic products exclusively.
Little Chunky People
In 1991, the original Little People figures redesigned for younger children. They were made "chunkier" were more bright and colorful, and were so they could activate movement within the game design. Most people believe that these figures were developed as a replacement for the original Little People as a result of increasing concerns and pressure from parents and consumer advocacy groups for safer toy designs. A book published in 1986 by Edward Swartz Title toys Kill a prominent trio of the original Little People figures featured on the cover. After Fisher-Price was bought by Mattel in the year 1990, Little People back in the markets, their figure was significantly greater in size from the original Little People characters following the revised guidelines toy safety. These figures are called "fat" by collectors.
Articulated Little People
In 1997 the figures underwent another redesign. Little People became much more detailed and smaller in overall size, in fact, closer in size from the original Little People. For the first time, the Little People figures had arms, hands, more detailed garments, molded hair and features.
Little People in 1999 celebrated their 40th birthday with the reintroduction of the first Little People toy ever: Little People School Bus and characters. The playsets include the school bus, circus train, construction vehicles and other play sets.
In 2000, Little People toys were even more life with the introduction of electronic sounds and motion. The Little People characters got their own distinct personalities and voices in a series of claymation video and DVD series, with Aaron Neville singing the theme song.
