Cash 5 Bean Feast Bug Eat Bug
I do not know about you, but I have no objection if something uninvited my greenhouse gate crashes and starts eating my plants. I love sharing fresh, home-grown produce with others, but others of my choice. It would not be so bad if they just ate a leaf or two, but more often than not distort and disfigure the plants so they they can not grow to their full potential and this affects the yield. The Greenhouse Bean feast is not an open invitation to help yourself.
But I have a problem, I've never been good at killing anything, even bugs and snails, and although that may have been a shock to many gardeners, I believe that everything has its place in the food chain and the larger cycle of life. So when the bugs invade'm not reaching for the chemicals. Pesticides are not smart enough to know that I do not want the aphids but I want to gliding, the bees and lacewings. Pesticides destroy many beneficial creatures that get in their path and they have other things to rob a meal. The garden provides a plague of aphids healthy meal for a long tail tits, ladybirds and hoverfly larvae. It is a bit different in the greenhouse, because this is a manmade environment where nature is not fully balance, I made a artificial environment where many pests can thrive and prosper without their natural enemies. Of course I leave the windows open for easy access to all creatures in this time of year, but the balance can and sometimes does, a bit crooked. After a couple of flower shows, with the plants themselves are dependent on irrigation systems keep watered and a spell of cold weather, the compost was too wet. Fungus flies have a field day. Then the unexpected arrival of a number of plants just for Chelsea, backed by a some uninvited guests soon, in my absence from a small colony of aphids has also built up.
So now the battle lines are drawn and as always I my favorite secret weapon at hand. A quick call to Green Gardener, a family company that supplies mail order biological control is the simplest, fastest and friendliest gatecrashers way to remove it from my precious plants and my private greenhouse. I can not recommend them dawn to dusk helpline enough and lost count of the rescue remedies they hurried to get my cash sent in distress over the years. And yes, in response to the last message of need is nicely packages bug busting agents. All naturally occurring, all organic and all effective and fast too, but the best is that these creatures do the work for me, I did not spray, squash or killing something, instead of these bugs do for me. I suppose some may say it's like hiring a killer, but I disagree, everything I've done a little recovered from the natural equilibrium intro by predators that naturally exist outside the grrenhouse in this protected environment. It's a great lesson for beginners and children. In the natural world, for every problem there is a solution for every pest there is a predator and each creature has a meal. By choosing to introduce natural enemies increases the populations of these beneficial creatures and them a source of food, shelter and a safe environment with the right conditions to breed. For gardeners, this is a win-win scenario. For cursed fungus flies a sprinkling of Hypoaspis on the affected compost is quick with the problem by eating the fly larvae. For a two-pronged attack aphids planned and dispatched: introduce two biological controls, Aphidoletes and Aphidius. Aphidoletes is used for large aphid colonies on a few plants. It is a naturally occurring mosquito larvae that feed on a wide variety aphids. Aphidius is used for small numbers of aphids spread over a number of plants. Aphidius is a naturally occurring parasite and its ability to attack more than 40 species of aphids. Joint Special packages are available.
