What is the collection – is it a hobby or an obsession?

People gather, collect, store and hoard just about anything. Some are put up for display (as visual arts), yet, others remain in attics and cellars, locked away forever. People collect just about everything, including: marbles, coins, political memorabilia, cookie jars, autographs, sports memorabilia, jewelry, Pez dispensers, snow globes, stamps, records, sports cards, comic books, toys, ceramics, jewelry …. why the list is endless.

People have always collected something like a hobby or an investment. In fact, one of the first American numismatists began collecting coins in 1817 and it was a collection of U.S. cent per year. However, coin collecting has a history dating back to ancient times when the ancient Romans were interested and collected Greek and Roman coins.

There are many famous people who have gathered in one thing or another. It is reported that one American lawyer has a collection of more than 200,000 railroad nails and a Russian countess collected from stabbing previously belonged to a rich and famous people amassed. King Louis XIV of France enjoyed its daily visit to the French Royal Mint Collection, noting that he could always find something new to learn. Comic book collectors can also collect a certain kind of comic, such as super heroes, Archie comics, adult comics, Disney or even black and white comics in recent years.

But, exactly why people collect? They could win a measure of satisfaction and pleasure from displaying the items they collect. Sometimes the nostalgia bug that forces people to collect items from a specific era. It is an item that is associated with their youth, a famous person or a world famous event. Number to collect because of the intrinsic value of an item, and the fact that the item might be desirable for others and can command a profit when they sold. An item can also be a specific origin, which could force interest.

Now the collection of an obsession or some form of "Pack Rat fever?" Webster's dictionary defines the word means to collect "collecting (stamps, books . Etc..) For a hobby "A collectible is something" that can be collected for collections;. As an amateur, each class of old things, but not antique, that people collect as a hobby "It adds that a collector is" a person who stamps, books, etc., collects as a hobby. "Products are made with 'Recovery' in mind, such as "limited edition" items like vinyl records, coins, art prints, or even cookie jars.

Moreover, the collectible the market in recent years expanded and nourished by the annual price guides, books on the subject, TV shows, collectible conventions and on internet auction sites, the collectible market now a global phenomenon. There are professionals who specialize in a particular market and they share their expertise and help even the value of collectibles. There is a science of species in how people "grade certain collectors (ie, mint, excellent, fair, etc.) and most of the time is paramount. All these factors drive market and contribute to a desirable factor for specific products and articles.

But the one element missing from the dictionary definition of "gathering" The drive and passion for what people can collect them. So let's go a few steps further with our definition of "gathering." Let us define: The art of acquiring specific items or products that you are passionate and want to preserve, whether for financial gain or personal satisfaction. Let's explore this definition in detail.

Is there an art to collect? There is certain. One must know where to find exactly what it is that they are seeking. Let's assume that you collect vinyl records. Is it best to an ad to place in a trade publication, local or national newspaper, online shopping, or the exercise of the flea market / garage sale ways? How about the "record conventions" held in big cities across the country? Is that the best way to continue? There is an art (some call it a science) to know where the best place to find any collectible that you might be seeking.

Moreover, the dictionary definitions of the collection is an important term missing passion. There is a direct correlation with the drive and motivation of a person feels and how they can be successful in acquiring their collectibles. This is a very important element, the enthusiasm of a person, the passion is what makes what they can collect a pleasant experience. And of course the more they put collect, the more they will get in return, not only in financial terms, but, simply put, the more fun they are pursuing their hobby.

So next time you shake your head to your partner, friend or relative and call them a "pack rat, "remember that they not only passionate about what they do, but actually contains a great deal of excitement and personal satisfaction in doing what they do. It is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things a person can do.

What is the most collectible record album you own?

an album called "Legends in their spare time" by a regional band called Mackinaw. They were popular in the late 70's and early 1980 in central Illinois. A friend and I helped vote them in for a recording contract at a local radio contest basement tapes. It was pressing a very small number and very local. It was signed by the leader of the band – "Many thanks, from the strange one – Gary" Crow "Carroll" Hey! I've heard from Rob Peterson! He's rockin '!
