The Cairn Terrier in Hollywood
Movies and television have featured animal actors for nearly a century. Moviegoers react to fans and television programs animals in their favorite roles in films. Equidae, cats, and even a special killer wale made in our hearts and homes through the big and small screen, but no animal has such an impact on Hollywood than the dog. The Cairn Terrier in particular has been used for many roles, including one that led to her dog, often referred to as the most famous actor dog in the world.
That role was the role of Toto in the Wizard of Oz, released in the year 1930. Toto was played by Terry, the Cairn Terrier and acted against the notorious Judy Garland in the role of Dorothy. Although both had acted before, Garland and Terry were both skyrocketed to fame because of the movie. While Terry was handled by her owner (and, coincidentally, savior) Carl Spitz, she spent much of the shooting schedule actually live in Garland. This living arrangement was used so that Terry Garland and would require significant time bond, and so that their affection for one another would be effectively translated into the film.
In the year 1930, budgeting for films was much different from what it is, even taking into account inflation. For the time when the film was produced, and its owner Terry pay for the week was more than double what the extras playing made the Munchkins!
While The Wizard of Oz, and Terry was undoubtedly the largest and most famous role Carl Spitz, it was not the first or the last film she appeared! Several years prior to filming The Wizard of Oz, Terry made her debut in Bright Eyes, starring Shirley Temple. Alongside Bright Eyes and The Wizard of Oz, Terry appeared in more than a dozen other films during her lifetime. After she died in the mid-1940s, her autobiography I, Toto 'was released to the public. Although already known, this biography solidified its role in the history of Hollywood even more.
Although Terry the Cairn Terrier Cairn Terrier course the most famous actor in history, many other films recommended the breed. Unfortunately, Hollywood has only recently been taken to recognize these dogs actors in the credits and billing of films or television programs. In the past, the trainer and / or handler were the only ones to mention or receive credit for the films of these dogs star in.
The height of the Cairn Terrier's popularity on the silver and the small screen was in the late 1930s through the 1940s, due in no small part to Terry's role as Toto in The Wizard of Oz. However, using Cairn Terriers chosen as a breed for dogs that has experienced a resurgence in popularity since the year 1990, the dogs appear as featured roles in nearly ten different films.
The most famous small screen role was undoubtedly a Cairn Terrier dog actor "Fred", a Cairn Terrier in the nature of animal portrayed Lucy Ricardo's in different seasons of I Love Lucy are.
