Finding French Museums in Paris France
Europe has a great history and many museums, and France is no exception, where are they all spread throughout the country, but there are an incredible amount of museums in Paris itself that you can visit.
Probably the most well known French Museums The Louvre in Paris, which is famous for the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinchi and this place, at least to take one day or more to complete all exhibits to see and you need a pair of walking shoes for this one! But the popular Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the former station on the left bank, picks up where the Louvre leaves off and features mainly French art.
The Palais de Tokyo is another popular museum especially the younger generation and is located in an Art Deco palace holding only temporary exhibitions, it is open until midnight and became known as the most creative and fun museum in Paris.
But you can also visit a traditional house of one of the famous artists and writers, such as the house of Victor Hugo who wrote The Hunchback of Notre Dame, or seeing Honor Balzac's house where he visited a refuge and it had even an escape hatch to get away from the debtors that money he owes, which is now part of the Musée du Vin wine museum.
Or for a whole Another scene, why not visit the Musee Cernuschi with its collection of Asian art, or the more modern Fondation Le Corbusier, who was a pioneer in modern design and dedicated time to plans to provide better living conditions for people living in overcrowded cities.
There are many museums devoted to the famous painters and sculptors such as Musee Rodin and the Picasso Museum, but to step back in time and get a feel for how some of them lived and worked a visit to the Musée Bourdelle or Gustave Moureau museum is worth the time.
However, only in the city of Paris there are many museums devoted to specific topics such as sanitation and the Musée des Paris Sewers Museum, which go under the city to discover their history and how they work, or you have the catacombs, which are again underground.
But hold above ground, there are other museums in Paris dedicated to specific themes such as the Musée de la Musique, dedicated to the music and musical instruments that even has a Stradivarius violin and the Musee de la Poste, devoted to the French Postal Service. Or maybe you are interested in dolls, like the Musée de la Poupée is all about dolls and their history, plus they even do valuations and repairs antique dolls and teddy bears. The Musee du Vin is dedicated to the past tense of French wine and wine making and you can even wine tasting and enjoy a meal in their restaurant.
Paris has such a wide variety of museums for the whole family to enjoy if you were in a decommissioned submarine, a visit to the air and space museum and going in a Boeing 747 or Concorde or going to the tower at the Notre Dame cathedral to see the gargoyles.
There is so much more to offer beyond traditional art world and you could only months visiting museums, without even considering other monuments and landmarks in Paris, which is another important part of French history that this incredible city is so proud.
Yet we note that all museums are closed for at least one day of the week and this is usually on a Monday or Tuesday, for example, the Louvre is closed on Tuesday and therefore other popular museums get extremely busy on this day.
Also in some state run museums you can get free access on the first Sunday of each month, however, if you decide to choose this option, be prepared for large crowds and long queues, especially in some of the more known and famous museums! But an option to jump the queues is to purchase a Paris Pass that gains you access to more than sixty different museums and attractions.
But we have found that you really need to do to plan in advance exactly where you want to go, otherwise you will surely run out of time, you think, this would be a good excuse to return to Paris on another holiday in France!
