Paul Reubens

Early life and education

Reubens was born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York, and grew up in Sarasota, Florida, where his parents, Judy and Milton, owned a lamp store. Reubens spent a considerable amount of his childhood in Oneonta, New York. His mother was a teacher and his father a car salesman who had flown Great Britain Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, later became one of the founders of the Israeli Air Force pilots during the war of 1948 of independence. Paul has two younger siblings, Lucas (born 1958), a dog trainer, and Abby (born 1953), which has been described by The Tennessean as a lawyer, mother, lesbian and board member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee. "She is also an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University Law School and former chairman of individual rights and responsibilities section of the American Bar Association and the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association.

As a child, would often Reubens Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, whose head office is in Sarasota during the winter. The circus' atmosphere Reubens awakened interest in entertainment and its impact on later work. Reubens also like watching repeats of I Love Lucy, who wants to make people laugh. At age five Reuben asked his father to build him a podium, where he and his siblings would put up plays.

Reubens attended Sarasota High School, where he was named chairman of the National Thespian Society. He was also in summer Northwestern University's program for gifted high school students and members of the local Asolo Theater and Players Theatre of Sarasota, appears in a variety of games. After graduating he went to Boston University and began auditioning for acting schools. He was rejected by several schools including Juilliard and twice by the Carnegie Mellon before being accepted at the California Institute of the Arts and moved to California where he began working in restaurant kitchens and a Fuller Brush salesman.

In 1970, Reubens performed at local comedy clubs and four guest appearances on the Gong Show as part of a boy-girl act that he had developed called the hilarious Charlotte McGinnis Betty and Eddie. He soon joined the Los Angeles-based improvisational comedy team The Groundlings and remained a member for six years, along with Bob McClurg, John Paragon, Susan Barnes, and Phil Hartman. Hartman and Reubens became friends, often writing and working on material together. In 1980 he had a small part as a waiter in The Blues Brothers.

Pee-Wee Herman

The character of "Pee-wee Herman" first arose during a 1978 exercise with the Groundlings improvisation, where Rubens came up with the idea of a man who wanted a comic, but was so awkward in telling jokes it was clear to the audience that he would never make. Ground Ling colleague Phil Hartman would then help develop the character while another Ground Ling Reubens, John Paragon, would help write the show. Despite the fact that in comparison with other famous characters such as Hergé's Tintin and Collodi's Pinocchio, Reubens says no specific source for "Pee-wee", but rather a collection of ideas. Pee-Wee's voice was created in 1970 when Reubens appeared in a production of Life With Father, where he was cast as one of the most unpleasant characters in the game, which Reubens has a cartoon-like way of speaking, that would be Pee-wee's. Pee-Wee's name is a mixture of a one-inch mark harmonica Reubens Pee Wee had as children, while Herman was the surname of an energetic boy Reubens knew from his youth. The first small gray suit Pee-wee once wore was hand made for director and founder of the Groundlings Gary Austin, who passed it Reubens, while "someone" handed him the "little-kid bow "For a show.

Reubens auditioned for Saturday Night Live for 19801981 season, but Gilbert Gottfried, who was a close friend of the producer of the show and had the same playing style as Reubens, got the seat. Reubens was so angry and bitter that he decided that He would borrow money and his own show in Los Angeles to use the character he had developed during the last few years, "Pee-wee Herman".

With the help other Groundlings as John Paragon, Lynne Marie Stewart and Phil Hartman, Pee-Wee acquired a small group of followers and Reuben took his show The Roxy Theatre, where "Pee-wee Herman Show "ran for five sold-out months, doing midnight shows for adults and weekly matinees for children, move to the mainstream if the HBO Pee-wee Herman Show aired in 1981 as part of their series on location. Reubens also appeared as Pee-wee in the 1980 movie Cheech & Chong's Next Movie. Reubens' act was mainly positive reactions and quickly acquired a group of fans, despite being described as "bizarre" and Reubens is defined as "the strangest comedian around '. Pee-Wee was both "stale" and "hip", "retrograde" and "avant-garde".

When Pee-Wee's fame began to grow, Reubens started to move away from the spotlight, his name under wraps and all his public appearances and interviews in character, while billing as playing Pee-wee itself, Reubens was trying to "get the public to think that that was a real person." Later he would rather be known only when his parents Herman and Herman Honey Herman. In the early and mid 1980, Reubens made several guest appearances on Late Night with David Letterman as Pee Wee Herman who gave Pee-wee an even bigger following. During mid- the year 1980, Reubens traveled the United States with an entirely new The Pee-Wee Herman Show, is particularly at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Caroline's in New York City and in 1984, in front of a packed Carnegie Hall.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

The success of The Pee-wee Herman Show prompted Warner Bros. to hire Reubens to write a script for a full-length film Pee-Wee Herman. Reubens original idea "was a remake of Pollyanna, Reubens claims that his favorite film to do. Halfway through writing the script, Reubens noticed everyone at Warner Bros. had a bike with them, which inspired Reubens to start to a new script with Phil Hartman. If Reubens and the producers of Pee-wee's Big Adventure saw Tim Burton's work on Vincent and Frankenweenie, Burton decided she would make an excellent director for their film. The film tells the story of Pee-wee Herman embarking on the whole country adventure in search of his stolen bicycle and it went to the Gross Domestic $ 40,940,662, recouping five times its $ 7,000,000 budget, making it a financial success. At the time of introduction in 1985, the film received mixed reviews, but Pee-Wee's Big Adventure has become a cult movie.

Pee Wee's Playhouse: 19861990

After seeing the success Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Reubens approached the CBS network with an ill-received proposal cartoon series. In 1986, CBS Reubens agreed to act, produce to sign and direct his live-action children's program, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, with a budget of $ 325,000 per episode, the same price as a prime-time sitcom, and no creative interference from CBS, while CBS has requested a few minor changes over the years. After casting actors like Laurence Fishburne and S. Epatha Merkerson, production began in New York City.

Cowboy Curtis (Laurence Fishburne) and Pee-wee on the 1990 episode "Camping Out"

Playhouse was designed as an educational and entertaining yet art show for children and, despite being heavily influenced by 1950 Reubens saw as a child shows such as The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, The Mickey Mouse Club, Captain Kangaroo and Howdy Doody, quickly acquired a dual audience of children and adults. Reubens, always trying to make Pee-wee a positive role model, it was after making a significant moral show, a which should teach children the ethics of reciprocity. Reubens believed that children were the Playhouse because it was fast-paced, colorful and "never talked them down" while the parents liked the Playhouse because it reminded them of the past.

In 1987, Reubens provided the voice of REX, the main robot in the George Lucas produced Disneyland attraction, Star Tours and reprized the role of Pee-wee Herman in a cameo appearances in the movie Back to the beach and the television show Sesame Street, the last in a cameo Playhouse.

Shortly after the success of Pee-wee's Big Adventure Reubens began working with Paramount on a sequel titled Big Top Pee-wee. Reubens and George McGrath's script, directed by director Randal Kleiser's Grease. The movie was not as successful as its predecessor, receiving mild reviews and does half as well at the box office, earning only $ 15 million.

Reubens attended 1988 Academy Awards with co-star Valeria Golino summit, which stirred rumors that the two were dating. The following year Reubens exchanged vows at a mock wedding, chaired by Imelda Marcos, in Shangri-La, Doris Duke mansion, Honolulu, Hawaii with Duke's adopted daughter Chandi Heffner.

Pee Wee's Playhouse aired from September 13, 1986 to November 10, 1990. Reubens had originally agreed to do two more seasons after the third, when CBS and the possibility of Reubens of the sixth season he refused early, wanting to be a few years sabbatical. Reubens was a burnout of playing Pee-wee full time and for the last few years had warned reporters Pee-wee that was temporary and that he had other ideas he would like to work. Both parties mutually agreed to end the show after five seasons, which included 45 episodes and a Christmas Special. Playhouse garnered 22 Emmy Awards, most of them in the Creative Arts Emmy Award category.

Pee-Wee's legacy

Reubens did not always thought of his character as a child, but sometime during the mid-1980s, he began to form Pee-wee in the best role model he could, making his show a morally positive show that cared about issues such as racial diversity. Reubens also pointed out what should be linked to Pee-wee. Being a heavy smoker, he went to great lengths never to be photographed with a cigarette in his mouth, he refused even candy bars and other junk in writing, while trying to hatch his own sugar-free grain "Ralston Purina Pee Wee Chow grain", a project that died after a blind test.

Reubens in 1985 received Harvard Lampoon's Elmer Award for Lifetime Achievement in comedy

With his positive attitude and wit, Pee-Wee was an instant cult figure to achieve a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989, and successfully the construction of a Pee-wee franchise, with toys, clothes and other items to generate more than 25 million U.S. dollars at its peak in 1988. Reubens also published a book like Pee-wee in 1989 called "Traveling with Pee-Wee". CBS aired reruns of the Playhouse until July 1991 when Reubens was arrested, pulling out their schedule the last two remaining repetitions. Fox Family Channel recently aired reruns of the Playhouse in 1998. In early July 2006, Cartoon Network began running a promo teaser during the Adult Swim lineup. A later press release and many other promos confirmed that the show of 45 original episodes nightly from Monday to Thursday would air starting on that date. Playhouse attracted 1.5 million viewers Evening. In 2007 TV Guide named the Playhouse one of its top 10 cult classics of all time. Several children's TV Pee Wee Herman Persona cite as inspiration, including Steve Burns Blue's Clues and SpongeBob SquarePants, Stephen Hillenburg.

In November 2004, all 45 episodes of the playhouse, plus six episodes that had never released in home video, released on DVD box set collection divided into two. Reubens planned to return the DVD with audio commentary by the release next year, but this has yet to materialize.

Pee-Wee's little Glen plaid suits looked ridiculous during the year 1980, but since the late 1990s did not give him a "style icon" with fashion houses and designers such as Christopher Bailey, Ennio Capasa, Miuccia Prada, Viktor & Rolf, and Thom Browne to create clean-cut suits with high armholes and shorts which have been compared to Pee-wee's. In early 2007 Nike SB released a collection of Nike sneakers called "Fallen Heroes". The collection was loosely inspired by Milli Vanilli, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice and Pee-Wee Herman. Pee-Wee's sneakers use a gray or white color scheme with red details, and an illustration on the insole of a man in suit sits alone in a theater with his hand on his lap, suggesting Reubens' 1991 arrest theater.

Reubens said he has plans for a museum, which would include many of the Playhouse sets and props, he still owns.

1991 arrest and withdrawal from public eye

In July 1991, during visiting relatives, Reubens was arrested in Sarasota, Florida for masturbating publicly in an adult theater while watching a triple bill of Catalina Five-O: Tiger Shark, Nurse Nancy and Turn up the Heat. Detectives would regularly visit pornographic theaters and observe (ESE detective spying on members of) the public, to arrest those involved with indecent exposure. Once arrested other men, a detective who was observing Reubens stopped him while on his way out. While investigators looked at his license, Reubens told them: "I'm Pee-Wee Herman" and then offered to a child for payment to the sheriff's office "to ensure this". The next day after a local reporter recognized Reubens 'name, Reubens' lawyer made the same offer to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in exchange for withholding the story. This was not the first arrest Reubens "in the province, in 1971 he was arrested for loitering and prowling around an adult theater, but the cost were later withdrawn. His second arrest was in 1983 when Reubens was placed on two years probation for possession of marijuana, even though adjudication was withheld. On the night of Reubens's arrest fled to Nashville, where his sister and lawyer, and then lived to New Jersey, where he would remain for the next few months on the estate of his friend Doris Duke's.

Reubens was not sign for one year and half, but because CBS was still running repeats of Playhouse Pee Wee's infamous mugshot Reubens' who not imagine the clean-cut look, Reubens had shown for the last decade, shocked the public, many assuming that the show was canceled because of the arrest. The arrest was widely reported and both the character and Reubens Pee-Wee became the subject of ridicule. CBS stopped airing and Playhouse Disney-MGM Studios suspended its studio tour video that showed a Pee-wee to explain how voice-over tracks were made and Toys-R-Us removed from the Pee-wee toy stores. Reubens released a statement denying of the burden, which was largely ignored by the media. Yet his voice work in Star Tours is not replaced. It is unknown whether he will not be called back for Star Tours II. Reubens' lawyers agreed to the plea, Reubens offered pleading no contest, while maintaining his innocence, to prevent what would have been a highly publicized trial. The plea was the charge off record Reubens, "and had his promise to at least 75 hours doing community service, creating an anti-drug public service announcement that he would write production and finance. Despite negative publicity, many artists who knew Reubens, like Cyndi Lauper, Annette Funicello, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Valeria Golino, spoke in his support. Bill Cosby defended Reuben, saying: "What (Reubens has) done, this is all blown out of proportion." Other people who knew Reubens, such as production Playhouse designer Gary Panter, S. Epatha Merkerson and Big Top Pee-wee director Randal Kleiser, also spoke out against the way Reubens was treated by the media. Reubens' fans organized also rallies of support after CBS canceled planned repetitions, with dozens of "Pee-weeites" picket in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. The audience seemed to sympathize with Reubenshe TV news magazine A Current Affair received "thousands" of responses to a Pee-wee telephone survey, with support from callers Reubens with a nine to one majority. He remained in a state of shock for weeks, and was pursued by the arrest of several years refusing to give interviews or appear on talk shows.

He later made a public appearance as Pee-wee at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards, where he asked the audience, "Heard any good jokes lately?" After he received a standing ovation, Reubens said: "Ha, that's so funny I forgot to laugh!" He appeared as Pee-wee once again in 1992 when he participated in a Grand Ole Opry tribute to Minnie Pearl.

Comeback in the 1990s and Blow

During the year 1990, Reubens kept a low profile, dedicate themselves to writing and collecting a variety of things, "everything from fake food to explain", although he took some dubbing and small parts in films like 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Tim Burton's Batman Returns (Reubens portrayed the Penguin's father) and 1996's Matilda and Dunston Checks In. In 1993, he called for an another Lock of Burton's works, The Nightmare Before Christmas. (Reubens would later dub lock for the video game The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge in 2004). During mid 1990 Reubens landed a recurring role on the hit TV series Murphy Brown. The role earned him critical acclaim and his first and only non-Pee-Wee Emmy nomination in the Outstanding guest actor in a comedy series. He appeared on the show six times between 19951997. The show brought a new interest in Reuben's acting and he began his first major project since the Playhouse a pilot for NBC entitled Meet the Muckle, a show that would be based on You Can not Take It with You. The show was stabbing in development hell, and was later withdrawn, when Reubens' ideas grew too elaborate and expensive, although Philip Rosenthal accused NBC's negative to Reubens being on the blacklist.

His various appearances on TV series Murphy Brown opened the door for Reubens comeback. In 1999 he gave several interviews as himself and made public appearances promoting Mystery Men, which First on The Tonight Show in 1999. He also played in the west of Dwight Yoakam's South of Heaven, West of Hell as a rapist and cold blooded murderer. In 2001, Reubens had his first extended television role since Playhouse as the host of the short-lived ABC television show Jack You Do, Ken is based on the play of the same name. Reubens doubted about the show, which was considered a risk, but eventually agreed to do it. The show was canceled after six episodes due to low ratings.

Reubens' comeback finally appeared when he played a flamboyant hairdresser turned drug dealer in Ted Demme's Blow drama, Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp played. His performance was praised and he began to receive scripts for potential film projects from different sources. From 1994 to 1999 Reubens was rumored to be engaged Debi Mazar after he started attending movie premieres with her.

Pornography arrest: 2002

In November 2002, during filming David La Chapelle's video for Elton John's "This Train does not stop there, "Reubens learned that police were at his house with a search warrant, following a tip from a witness in the case against pornography actor Jeffrey Jones, available at more than 70,000 items of kitsch memorabilia two grainy videotapes and dozens of what the City Attorney's Office characterized as a collection of child pornography. Kelly Bush, Reubens's personal representative "at the time, said the description of the items was incorrect and claimed that the articles were" Rob Lowe's sex tape and a few 30 – to 100-year-old kitsch collectible images ". Reubens turned into the Hollywood Division of the LAPD and was charged with possession of obscene material for wrong image of a child under the age of eighteen years in sexual behavior. The prosecutor looked at Reuben's collection 'and the computer and found no basis for Setting no crime charges against him, while the city attorney brought misdemeanor charges against Reubens' on the last day "that the law would allow. Reubens was represented by Hollywood criminal defense attorney Blair Berk. In December he pleaded not guilty by Berk, who also complained that the city attorney no more than evidence turn to the defense, that City Attorney Richard Katz countered that prosecutors were not required to do so until after arraignment, after which they did, neither side disclosed the contents.

"One thing I want to make very, very clearly, I do not want anyone to think for one second that I am stimulated by images of children. It's not me. You can say anything about me. And you could. The public may think I'm weird. They may think I'm crazy or something that everybody wants to think about me. That's all fine. As long as one of the things you do not think about me is I am a pedophile. Because that is not true. "

aul Reubens on costs.

Child pornography were dropped in March 2004. For the next three years he had to register his address with the Sheriff's Office and could not be in the company of minors without parental consent. Reubens said later that he a collector of erotica, including movies, muscle magazines and an extensive collection of both heterosexual and homosexual vintage erotica, such as Photographic Studies of teen nudes. Reubens claimed that the city Attorney's Office considered pornography, he considered innocent art and what they described as men involved in underage masturbation or oral copulation was in fact a subjective viewpoint of the nudes, which Reubens describes as people "hundred percent" not performing sexual acts. A great collector, Reubens had often bought in bulk, with one of his vintage magazine dealers stating that "no way" he could have known the contents of each page in the papers he bought and that he remembered asking for Reuben's "physique magazines, 1960 vintage material, but not things with kids.

He spent the next two years caring for his terminally ill father in Florida who died in February 2004 of cancer.

Before this comeback, Reubens was present age 'and The shape is noted as a potential problem, since Pee Wee's slim figure and beautiful skin is one of his trademarks. I am China Manufacturers writer, reports some information about nikon coolpix 8700 , digital camcorder dvc.

All other people find themselves going to older stars ….?

one of the leading female parts in movies, the sexy, fun and / or self-assured woman. I have already found, it is mainly the older female stars who have interested me, and the younger women I'm usually either * yawn, another semi-nude barbie doll kind of stupid thing * or * how * they can get a good example for me would be Meryl Streep. Angels in America is one of my favorite shows all-round, but I would like look only for the performance of Meryl Streep. I have not seen much of her, but I plan on seeing more of her own films. Jodie Foster is another. for anything they do not trying to be sexy, but in my opinion (it rolls at least) is a man I have it from a male perspective, but I suppose the question could be targeted girls / women on. Oh and one other is Lena Olin, I've only seen her in Queen Of The Damned and The Ninth Gate does.

I would have to agree on a way. I LOVE Diane Keaton, think her work is amazing, even Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, etc are fantastic. I am convinced that Hollywood has turned into Pretties picking the location of the signing of the stars and what I mean. People now seem to get roles for their appearance rather than their ability to act. Say I think some of the newer actors / actresses are very good, Keanu Reeves, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have all done well in such films as Devil's Advocate, Point Break, A Mighty Heart, Gia, Fight Club and Jesse James. I think the best films I know some one who will Keaton such people like Morgan Freeman and Diane. Having said that, I viewed a film extraordinary film 'The Bucket List' to look, really good fun
