Porcelain is an integral thread of the fabric of Chinese culture. In the 14th century, while Europeans were still eating from low-fired earthenware or wooden dishes, the Chinese had developed the first underglazed porcelain. They were using cobalt, originally imported from Iran during the Yuan period (1279-1368 AD), to add exceptional shades, from pale blue to almost black, to translucent white goods. As soon as Marco Polo brought back a few samples, the world Could not and still can not get enough of it-.
Copper is the other basic color of underglaze decoration. It produces tones ranging the first muddy brown of the early Ming Dynasty to the true red of the 18th century. "Peach blossom" or "unripened peach" is a greenish tint produced when copper has oxidized.
Overglaze decoration was carried out in different types of email and called famille rose (a French phrase meaning "rose family). There is famille verte (green), famille noire (black), and famille jaune (yellow). Pieces with a black enamel background famille rose or in combinations such as rose-verte (pink and green) was a late 17th-century innovation. It is generally accepted that overglaze enamel decoration reached its zenith in the 18th century.
The Japanese were at this time the development of porcelain, mostly in the form of ceremonial objects like the tea ceremony. The famous Satsuma porcelain you hear so much about was a 17th-century innovation, adopted from Korea and then greatly improved. By the Meiji period (1868 – 1912), the Japanese had taken enameling to a new level. High fired and because of the characteristics of Japanese accuracy, precision and definition of these porcelain paintings were very conceptual. The art of Japanese porcelain enamel peaked between 1880 and 1920, while the Chinese porcelain was at its best between 1710 and 1810.
In recent years, very beautiful and extremely rare porcelain became extremely valuable. In March 2008 we sold a large Hongwu vase during Asia Week in New York City for $ 1.2 million. Fortunately there is still a tremendous amount of beauty to be found within an affordable price. Slight defects the price down, and but the items are still very collectible and consistently appreciate in value.
General, the enamel defects are most common while baking. While several overglaze colors can theoretically be fired at the same time, more often than not be separately released. If gilded, the gold was last to go. It is the first to sell.
When evaluating a particular piece of porcelain, start looking at it as though it perfectly and to determine price perfection. (Access our online catalogs and prices realized for each auction to use as a reliable price.) Decide from there the flaws in the piece and judge the value in its current state.
My own opinion is that very fine porcelain with any damage or restoration are great buys today. A Ch'ien Lung bowl, for example, in perfect condition would be out of reach of most people. But if you find one with a small chip that was expertly repaired and the bowl would be a nice addition to your collection now. They are not making them more and so the chances of holding its value, even appreciating, is enormous.
As for copies, can get them pretty easily. The device is usually be prepared carefully. Since porcelain does not show much wear, you will immediately notice if a piece looks like someone has taken fine steel wool and scrubbing, put it on a lap or tried to tone it down with chemicals.
Japanese porcelain from the Meiji period and notably from the Kutani (nine? Nine Rivers Rivers) region has never really effective to have been acquired, the repros that do exist are noticeably inferior. Also a few reproductions come from Japan these days.

There is a tile paint on the market called Thompson's tile paint a primer in it, so you just make your tile layer 1. Paint when you do a small role because it gives you a smooth paint finish.the come in a wide range of colors and you can get of a large DIY store. happy painting
