Pair with a Chardonnay Some BBQ
Summer is BBQ time. With Father's Day, July 4 and summer in general, many Americans enjoy the traditional BBQ. At Naperville's Ribfest, barbecue pork ribs are king. If you are a bit "porked out" grilled chicken and fish are a welcome change. A wine that pairs well with both is Chardonnay. This is a large terrace wine while you are enjoying backyard grilling with family and friends this summer.
Wine Facts
Chardonnay is one planted and the most successful white wines in the world, and is recognized as one of the nine classical varietals. Chardonnay grapes prefer cooler climates. Chardonnay offers attractive aromas of tropical fruit, butterscotch and apple and has a creamy, full style. Quality of Chardonnay is briefly aged in oak barrels to a creamy richness and a long, pleasant finish it. Winemakers have to be careful about the length of time the wine in contact with the wood, as an "over-oaked" wine may be loose fruit flavors and balance, and taste unpleasant.
major growing areas include California Chardonnay and the Pacific Northwest, Chile, Australia, France, Italy and South Africa. The big difference is the "old world" style French chardonnay tends to be thinner, and apple crisp with mineral notes, while the U.S. tends to be large Chardonnay and oaky with vanilla and butterscotch notes. If the American tastes have shown preference for a lighter style of Chardonnay, American winemakers have moved away from their dependence of oak and have been using stainless steel vessels, resulting in a fresher, more food-friendly wine.
The Wine Spectator reported that the July issue of 2007 vintage California Chardonnay is excellent, with the Northern California regions (Napa, Sonoma, Carneros) all received 96 out of 100 points. She described this year as "mature, complex, balanced and age worthy wines. "This is great news to share and hopefully encourages you to try some soon to 2007 Chardonnay.
Food pairing
While Chardonnay is widely planted and consumed, it is not a food-friendly wine for several reasons. Chardonnay tastes tend complex, so it pairs best with simple dishes and sauces. Chardonnay tends to lower acidity that is not your taste buds to clean after a sip. California Chardonnays food pairing additional challenges because they tend to toastier an oak flavor and higher alcohol levels.
So why the popularity? The rich, buttery character pairs beautifully with shellfish Chardonnay's buttery taste (think of Lobster). In general, fish, shellfish and chicken provide a simple flavor profile that will not Chardonnay compete with complexity. And bold flavors of Chardonnay can stand up to a rich sauce that might be your entrance.
We suggest that you consider both the "old" and "new world" styles of Chardonnay try. When charcoal grilling or smoking, a California Chardonnay can compliment roast the smoky flavor of your BBQ.
An unoaked, stainless steel Chardonnay year will pair well with light summer salads, fish and chicken dishes that are cooked on a gas grill. The wine label may specify unwooded or unoaked Chardonnay – or ask your local wine merchant for suggestions. It always comes down to personal taste preferences.
Directional, Americans have moved away from heavily oaked Chardonnay and are now seeking out less oaky versions. The good news is more quality unoaked Chardonnay is now produced worldwide.

Foxglove Chardonnay
The Varner Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California consistently offer a of the values of the best in the market. Robert Parker gave the 2007 vintage 90 points and described this wonderful medium-bodied cuvee offering tropical fruit, pear and mineral notes. The good news is that 25,000 cases were produced, making this wine should be readily available. This wine should be consumed within 2 years, $ 12.

I have a beautiful Indian style skirt that I can not seem to make a pair. Help?
I bought it because it looked beautiful to my eye, but the problem that I can not seem to think of what to wear with. It is light blue, knee length and looks like it is made from a variety of pattern shawls sewn together. I want to carry it in a casual way, but every time I've combined it with plain t-shirts or wife-beaters, it looks. Any suggestions?
Maybe coupling with a darker blue Cami, and a light jacket on. You can also wear a nice pair of slippers or sandals.
