Picture Perfect Posture
Picture perfect posture is something we all aspire, but it does not exist. The reality today is that most people's attitude is far from ideal. A bad attitude is not only unflattering – it's a little-known health risk. Worse, the negative impact of postural alignment tend to slowly and silently accumulate over time to significant pain and disability even arise.
Hunching over your desk with the computer work to do all day might seem not problematic until the damage is done and you realize you can not straighten up! By adulthood, most of us already fallen into some bad habits postural (Which we may or may not be aware). You can check for any asymmetry in your body by looking in a mirror.
As early as age 8, there are indications of widespread postural changes associated with the dominant hand to use. A typical pattern for a right-handed person is as follows: right shoulder is lower than the left, Basin deviated slightly to the right, right hip is slightly higher, a slight deviation to the left of the spine, and the left foot is flatter than the right. Some exceptions may only be perceived by the eye of a trained professional such as a chiropractor, doctor or physiotherapist, while others may be very obvious. Many of these abnormalities include orthostatic thought to have developed because our society has become quite sedentary. (Can you say, "Couch Potato"?) Even young children are signs of orthostatic stress to sit for a long time in school or display while playing computer games. The previously unheard of for a child to complain of neck and back pain not related to trauma. Poor posture causes the entire spine and pelvis to complete, as well as the head to emerge in a typical "crisis" position.
The human body can be visualized as a kinetic chain. Our joints are linked together in such a way that the position of one joint affects the position of all others. With other words, segments of the body does not move in isolation. They are all connected. If our major joints properly stacked, the human body can be upright remain very weak, low-stress ligaments, and equally distributed compressive forces. However, when attitude is less than optimal, imbalances cause increased stress to muscles, bones and connective tissue, the entire kinetic chain effects.
Our modern society seems to encourage faulty alignment through repetitive and restrictive nature of certain work-related and everyday activities. People who perform the same activities over and over again in the same position are overusing some muscles and under-exploited others. Our bodies easily adapt to the requirements we set for them. The dominant hand or leg can be very strong, while the non-dominant side weakens, creating widespread strength and flexibility imbalances. Other muscles attempt to compensate until they too are compromised.
Possible sources of pain include muscle cramps and fatigue, ligament strain, compression of nerves and blood vessels, joint inflammation and arthritis. Individuals may seek medical attention due to chronic pain, functional limitations and disabilities associated with postural dysfunction. It is unfortunate that we only tend to recognize that we have a problem when our bodies are "yelling" are with us. Many postural problems are ignored until the person experiences a traumatic event. The application of an acute stress, in addition to chronic orthostatic stress may result in an injury differently might have been very minor. The position of the head also affects the direction of the shoulder, arm and hand. FHP may also be involved in carpal tunnel syndrome in the wrist.
Adverse changes in the musculoskeletal system is the loss of position sense. Over time, and individual with FHP loses the ability to position the head correctly the cervical spine. Ultimately, a bad attitude gradually begins to feel the body as the norm.
The good news is that the correction of the posture of the adaptation has been shown to relieve pain and function, such as range of motion and strength to recover. Through specific exercises, the joints and muscles can be retrained. You can improve your posture through simple stretching exercises or reorganizing your workspace. Take frequent breaks can also help (at least 5 minutes per hour). Also, while you work when possible. Finally, remember these words from your mother … Stop slouching and upright in your chair! Now is the time to do it.
