Antique lighting – Antique Bisque Porcelain Lamps
Bisque porcelain and biscuit porcelain, derives its name from the first or the first explosion, when the fragile porcelain can be snapped off as a cookie. Bisque porcelain is also commonly known as "biscuit ware", unglazed pottery, and more popularly as the "Parian" ware.
All bisque or Parian porcelain is unglazed and in Victorian times was admired for its sculptural qualities. The name "Parian" is in fact, attributed to Thomas Minton, the famous 19th-century English potter, who coined the name after Parian Paros, the Greek island explored many of the pure white marble sculpture used in studios.
Of course, the originator of china China, including unglazed white bisque porcelain. Announced that the Chinese potters as "Fan Ts'u. China before the 18th century, the sole producer of porcelain in the world and this event is celebrated by the standard name given to porcelain, china!
When the first porcelain firing receives is porous. Then the glass and refired. This second firing causes the glaze to fuse with the porous form and vitrified, or glass-like ". From this "glass in the white ', is then moved to the decorating department porcelain painted by skilled painters, or transfer print. At the finish of the decorating process, the form is refired the colored enamel to dissolve.
If gold is used, the form still agree with each shot fired at a lower temperature than the previous one, the heat gradually reduced.
In the production of bisque porcelain, porcelain is left in the white and unglazed. Ceramic Glazes have a tremendous benefits for manufacturers like porcelain enamel to hide mistakes. With bisque, this handy feature is missing and the quality is completely depend on detailed models and production control.
A beautiful pair of English, high Victorian, or possibly, American made, slip cast, bisque lamps. Bisque, also known as "biscuit", which is unglazed fired only once.
The lamps of the formal neoclassical style with a deep cream color. The upper part of the lamps, cast as the central formal compositions and acanthus urn molds with uniform supported by swags tied ribbons. The centers of the urns decorated with large loose bouquets of garden flowers and leaves is supported by an urn-shaped lamps suspended tie.The short round bases, rims dragooned and stand on square shaped plinths.
Bisque, with a new cream color was revived in 1846 and again at the end of the 19th century. It has a range of colors from white to cream and was also known as the "Parian", a reference to the white marble of the Greek island of Paros, much sought after by sculptors. Bisque was much favored in the Victorian period, because of its rather sculpted appearance.

Although we are still called "bisque porcelain, modern production methods are now producing a hard, durable ceramic body without the brittleness of most previous bisque needed to stabilize the glass shape.
In Europe, pure white, bisque china, like a ballerina, stepped into the center to produce stunning 1750 portrait busts and figure groups in dazzling white marble look-a-like.
On the Vincennes factory, a beautiful series of children along the lines of the sketches of Boucher and modeled Blondeau were produced by other mid-18th century works, including Sevres and Mennecy produce figure subjects of sublime quality.
In the 18th century England, the Derby factory produced finely detailed figures undecorated bisque. With English figures are traditionally decorated in color, these figures must have looked outstanding.
The English 18th century peaked in 1774 with the discovery of Josiah Wedgwood Jasper. Jasper is a fine-grained, unglazed pottery, now so well recognized to be seen as synonymous with the name of Wedgwood. Jasper was copied by the French at Sevres, in biscuit porcelain and other French and German factories.
By the end of the 18th century, as usual, tastes changed and the unadorned, neo-classical styles prevail. Bisque porcelain reached new heights of sophistication with elegant Regency style. Bisque busts library, Wedgwood jasper and unglazed white bisque elegant French and English models.
Bisque, with a new cream color was reintroduced by Copeland in Staffordshire in 1846 and was soon adopted by other English and American makers.
And now, for the technical part!
The production of a porcelain bisque figure, cap, starting with the eye of the designer, with sketchbook and pencil the outline of the design idea. This idea, of course, will be framed by the contemporary styles of the time.
Biscuit porcelain, like all complex ceramic shapes, is molded or slip cast. Slip is liquid suspension, of potter's clay mixed with water is a semi-liquid cream that is literally poured into plaster molds contoured to take shape.
Slip is the raw material behind the beautiful porcelain we see. This liquid porcelain is a mixture of kaolin, feldspar and ground flint. Kaolin is naturally occurring, fine clay with a high percentage of silicate. Feldspar is a crystalline mineral, also with a high silicate content and crushed Flint is a hard quartz.
These lists only the primary content of the porcelain mixture, which was refined and developed hundreds years. The chemistry is more complex with potassium, sodium and calcium contribute to the final product.
Both pottery and porcelain were made by pouring the slip into plaster molds, the plaster absorbs water from the slip, thereby forming a solid layer, then the excess is poured off.
It is interesting to note that the tradition of the slip casting with plaster, preformed molds is not new, the process introduced in England in about 1745, allegedly by a potter named Ralph Daniels of Cobridge.
When the remaining slip becomes hard cheese or sometimes as "leather hard", and the plaster molds are removed and the slip cast assembled to form the desired design produce.
Traditionally this is the fitting function was performed by a staff member "the restorer. His job was to remove all the seams and smooth ironing all traces of the fungus. This finish is much the same as today with slip is used to act as an adhesive.
When the installation is complete, the forms are well air-dried until the pieces to dry. The now completed form is sent to the oven to bake.

I want it with a jumbled assortment of weirdness I would call it eccentric Victorian gothic …… Thanks for all the advice and turn stupid answers:)
