Portuguese Empire

Portuguese Dining Experience
When in Europe, you can take a snapshot of just about any dining experience of his legendary country, and one that stands out as a cultural mecca of fine cuisine of Portugal, the Iberian country.
It is a 2000 years old country that, historically, as a nation began in the 12th century after the Battle of Ourique, but extends located far back to the first century BC, when Rome throughout the Iberian peninsula is attached to his empire. The 14th to the 16th century saw Portugal as a powerful naval presence that brought home a wealth of culinary traditions from the regions are conquered and occupied explorers of Africa, Southeast Asia to South America.
Olives and Wines
The best of Portugal begins its olives and wines. Of the country warm Mediterranean microclimate favors abundant cultivation of olive trees and grapes in many of the country provincial regions such as the Douro, Madeira and Algarve regions. Olives are now considered the healthiest edible oil, while the Port and Madeira wines are mimicked in all wine producing countries in the world but never equaled.
Pine nut
Used to flavor many Mediterranean dishes, pine nuts take Portuguese culinary art to a different level of culinary uniqueness. Also called umbrella pine, pine nuts harvested from the Portuguese stone pine, abundant in wooded areas of the country. It is used in the preparation of various food dishes for centuries, long before the exotic spices from other countries were brought by Spanish conquerors in the 14th-16th century.
Seafoods
If a country is bordered by the mighty Atlantic Ocean to the west and south, Portugal has one of the highest seafood consumption in the continent. Her signature recipe Bacalhau cod numbers in all Portuguese restaurants everywhere, no two of which taste the same. The sardines are second only to Spanish Sardines in popularity.
Her other culinary concoctions in the sea prawns or spicy shrimp and several dishes for horse mackerel, goose barnacles, lamprey fish, rayfish, sea bass, scabbard and a wide assortment of shellfish, like mussels, oysters and scallops. The Calderaida stew is a dish consisting of several former fish and shellfish.
Portuguese Cheese
While Amsterdam cheese products may be more popular, Portuguese chesses among the most flavorful. You have Queijo Serra, made from sheep's milk, which rivals the Brie cheese. The Cabereiro, Serpa, Azeitao chesses from goat's milk and processed in the same regions of Portugal a number of best wines, such as the Algarve, Alentejo and Madeira regions produce. GP

Why do most of the former Dutch colonies, do not speak Dutch?
Notwithstanding the Netherlands who had a large colonial empire in the past, why so few of these former colonies do not speak Dutch, compared with British, French, Spanish or Portuguese colonies usually appear colonialists' language speak?
I partly agree with the previous responder. First the Dutch was a rich merchant. This means that colonies had not demonstrated, but the great fortified trading posts. Once the colony was no longer profitable, the station was abandoned. The colonization of Brazil never got off the ground, due to a lack of people willing to move to Brazil. Above all, the WIC never seriously tried to recruit settlers. In Africa, many of the commercial stations, but no colonies. Except for the Cape which was later taken over by the British. That was one of the few exceptions: the VOC did stimulate settle there. And we see this is one of the few places where such Dutch (Afrikaans) yet what is spoken today. Indonesia never spoke Dutch. Of course, the ruling classes did, and the Dutch government + Settlers. But the local language was not suppressed in any way. Nor was colonized much encouraged: instead sent the VOC loading, much more profitable! Consequently, most Dutch were men who married local women. Their children grew up speaking Dutch as a second language best. Unlike other colonial powers, the Dutch never had much difficulty in forcing their language. Today you can Dutch language in the Netherlands Antilles, but Papiamento and English are more useful. Suriname same story: you're better off with English and Papiamento.
