Queen Alexandra, saucy writer?
It is roumoured the Queen Consorts have written popular songs of their day. Queen Alexandra, the consort of King Edward VII is said to have written a few songs for the famous music hall singer Marie Lloyd. Although she spoke to her native Danish accent her life her English was excellent and she was literally the Queen of the double entendre.Three of the most famous songs Marie Lloyds': "A Little Bit Of What You Fancy doing Good, "" When I Take My Morning Promenade "and" Lady Barbara's predicament ", all roumoured to have come from her sherry fueled imagination when left alone for the evening, while King galivanted. It seems they took her beloved princess daghter-in-law, May in her confidence and she later picked up the hobby Queen Mary when she was 1910.How it's amazing to think that this is the most formidable of characters mentioned in a diary of her maid as writing the lyrics of George Formby's "Oh Mr Woo. Camilla will do the same?
When George Formby was presented at Windsor Castle to give a private performance, his wife noticed later to the King that the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, knew all the words to songs. The king replied: "Well no wonder, they play his records all day long!" Obviously they have inherited Queen Mary's admiration for the Lancashire Performer Saucy! Queen Alexandra was also an avid photographer and lover of the arts, so I would not the least bit surprised if she wrote a few songs. I'm not familiar with Lady Barbara's predicament, but others may know the lines.
