Real-life couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz play a prominent role of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, a married couple living in a New York apartment complex. Ricky is a Cuban born band leader who impresses with its night clubs act, while Lucy is a homemaker. Lucy and Ricky's best friends are landlords Fred and Ethel Mertz who often intertwined in the get-rich-quick schemes of Lucy, screwball ideas, and comic shenanigans. Past masters of the stage, the cast comes across as a likeable bunch, with Lucille Ball stealing the show with her crazy antics and brilliant facial distortions. The I Love Lucy DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere "The Girls Want to Go To The Nightclub" in which Ethel wants to celebrate her 18th birthday with a trip to the Copacabana, while Fred wants to go to the fighting. To agree that the girls go to the club while the boys go to war, Fred and Ricky decide to spy on the girls so they call a friend for some dates for the club. I know he was a singer and band leader, but what was his job in the first episode. Thanks.
Aside from his role in a film and several TV appearances, etc., Ricky mission never changed the whole show – he was a singer and bandleader at the Tropicana club. Eventually he became the manager and, near the end of the series, he had an even greater role and the club renamed Club Babalu.
