Theme Restaurants – From Tiki to Rock N Roll
Theme restaurants are known for their exaggerated decor and ambience. In a theme restaurant, the overall "concept" influences of everything from architecture to food. Even the music and the drinks are carefully planned to the atmosphere of the restaurant to support. Many themed restaurants attract diners only based on the theme itself. While the food may take a backseat to the theme, many themed restaurants known for their unique and creative take on the traditional menu items.
The first theme restaurants are believed to have opened in the years 1910 and 1920. One of the first examples is Bernstein's Fish Grotto in San Francisco opened in 1912 with a input made to look like the Nina, one of Columbus' ships. Theme Restaurants in the years 1910 and 1920 were seen as isolated oddities, not a general trend in the restaurant style. Los Angeles has long been known as the center of the theme restaurant movement, the city was the home of Ye Bull Pen Inn, which opened in 1920 with a dining room divided into stalls and rough, unfinished wood panels for the walls and ceiling. Several other restaurants of this era in downtown Los Angeles were built to look like prisons or ships. What put separately themed restaurants, was not only the appearance but also the creative theme atmosphere found inside.
Over the years, various entrepreneurs restaurant is named father of the theme restaurant. One of these is Victor van den Berg of the famous Trader Vic's tiki restaurant chain. Another example is the Don Beach Umbridge, a tiki-chain was founded in 1934. Both restaurants served standard Asian cuisine with a unique twist tiki. Both are typical of the larger theme restaurant movement, which the restaurant is not just food, but atmosphere and providing an escape from everyday life.
Another famous purveyor of the theme David Tallichet restaurants, which began in the 1960s to decorate restaurants with various themes, from the Polynesian island resorts to French farms to New England fishing villages. Most of its restaurants were located in Southern California, including the proud bird restaurant at Los Angeles airport, where guests can listen messages to the control tower through headphones. While the theme restaurants were certainly long before the year 1960, particularly in the tiki craze that began in the year 1930, noted Tallichet for popularizing the concept by using a wide range of topics.
Today there are dozens of themed restaurants for themes. Some of the more popular Medieval Times castle-themed restaurants and other businesses, many of which are nightly jousting contests or other shows, and the Rainforest Cafe chain, known for its tropical forest structure often consists of a display tank in the middle of the restaurant. Several other popular theme restaurant chains include the Hard Rock Cafe with rock music memorabilia and Planet Hollywood, known for its collection of movie memorabilia. Although these are among the most familiar themes, there are certainly other, ranging from commonplace to Fri unusual, such as "das Klo" ("the toilet") in Germany or The Safe House, a spy-themed restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

How much does an average meal costs at the Hard Rock Cafe?
I am planning a trip to the Hard Rock Cafe in Biloxi, MS before I go to school in Aug.. I was suppose to go in September 2005, but Katrina came along a little too fast. I've heard many things about the franchise of friends of mine, but it just went to T-shirts get-t. I'd really just like a bit of an idea what to expect when I go and how much money I need for one of my last trips on the road in southern Mississippi.
Meals are anywhere from 10.95 to 24.95 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls and sandwiches with chips from 5.95 to 9.95. Hope that helps a little. Here is the website for the menu from one in Biloxi. Http: / / www.hardrock.com/locations/cafes3/cafes.aspx?LocationID=328&MIBenumID=3&MenuID=1
