What to do in Victoria BC Canada: Royal London Wax Museum
In the heart of the tourist area of Victoria on Vancouver Island is the Royal London Wax Museum. For a small entrance fee you get at least one hour worth of history and awe.
We were not planning a visit to the museum. But we had some time to kill and it is a good thing we did. We had a great time. The place is actually quite misleading. When we arrived we saw a few rooms and what they call Royalty Row. Here they had wax dummies of a number of England's royalty. The most popular is the doll of Princess Diana. After you view Royalty Row, we thought that was it. And we were pissed off. We were actually thinking of asking for our money back. But at the very end, on the right was a door. When we went through the door, we learned that much more to the museum than we first thought.
The different areas of the museum contained several dummies. Some of the areas Royalty Row, where they were dummies of England Royalty past and present, great leaders, leaders know where they of the world as Mahatma Gandhi, the Galaxy of Stars, where she famous celebrities like Elvis Presley, Storybook land, where they dummies of a few favorite stories, and The Chamber of Horrors, where they show in detail the methods used for torture and imprisonment throughout history.
Our favorite was definitely the Chamber of Horrors. We found more for the history lesson than the dummies. They had shown scenes and a brief explanation of what was displayed. Some of the displays, the Pit and the Pendulum. This is torture unit where the prisoner is placed on his back and tied into a pit. A sharp blade is swung back and forth like a pendulum in order to cut the prisoner. If the knife cuts through the prisoner it gets lower and lower until the person is cut in half.
The other amazing torture screen was the hook. This was a big hit with sharp metal hook by the prisoner. He left there would be suspended in the air until he bled to death. It would take hours to die this way. If you're reading this you are probably shocked that the humans can be so cruel to each other. But if you can see the display, it makes you almost sick. The wax dummies are not exactly life like, but pretty close. And the displays are very gruesome.
Upon exiting the dungeon of the Chamber of Horrors, to Storybook Land, with dummies of Walt Disney and Alice in Wonderland. What a change. Of horror stories to Fri The display of the Last Supper was great too. That was my second favorite display after the Chamber of Horrors.
While we were not impressed by the wax figures In the wax museum, we enjoy it.
And if you do the museum in the gift / candy store left. And this store has a number of British Candy favorites. There were a lots of great deals here not available elsewhere. You owe it to yourself to check it.

What is / was your favorite childhood picture book?
Mine was "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss Matty my 7yr old's mother says the book the teacher called Miss Nelson is missing, that he read in school care.
I was all about Dr. Seuss green eggs and ham was my personal fave. But my fave son was "One Fish Two Fish" I swear I think I still know most of the heart after reading it to him 2-3 times a night! He is almost 13 now.
