Strawberries are so sweet
Is there a fruit sweeter than strawberries? In a recent poll, more than 38% of children and 33% of adults ranked strawberries as their favorite fruit. In fact, 46% of us eat strawberries every week. And we could not choose a healthier snack. Strawberries are a powerhouse calorie diet. One cup of strawberries contains only 43 calories and that cup of berries is packed with vitamins and minerals, including 140% of your recommended daily amount of vitamin C. Strawberries are also rich in fiber, folate, potassium and antioxidants, thus indulging in your favorite fruit is a delicious way to cardiovascular disease, hypertension and some forms of cancer.
Enjoy them straight from the box to the core of our favorite mid-summer dessert, Strawberry Shortcake, strawberries are sweet, easy to eat and very versatile. Here are 10 more ways to express your love of America's favorite fruit to enjoy.
- Add one cup of strawberries to a smoothie for a cool and refreshing treat.
- Slice stem and a pint of strawberries and sprinkle with sugar. Let sit for about 30 minutes and serve sprinkled on a piece of angel food cake.
- Glazed strawberry pie is an eye catcher. Fill a pie crust with vanilla pudding. Cover the pudding with a mountain strawberries, stems removed. Pour heated apricot jelly over the strawberries and refrigerate for 1 hour. Beautiful!
- Cut up strawberries, top with whipped cream and pancakes for a role in elegant brunch.
- For a weekend treat, mash a pint of strawberries with a tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 30 minutes and serve over pancakes or waffles with whipped cream.
- Strawberries make a great edible garnish. Add 3 or 4 to your dinner plate every night of the week ..
- Remove stems and cut them in cereal or muesli for a sweet, fruity flavor.
- Toss sliced strawberries with baby greens, walnuts, blue cheese crumbles and vinaigrette for a salad.
- Make a parfait dessert by adding sliced strawberries with yogurt or pudding.
- Serve on a slice of cheesecake or pound cake for an extra sweet touch.
So go ahead and do your body good by enjoying an extra helping of strawberries. They are a delicious, healthy taste of summer anytime of the year.

Strawberry Shortcake?
i do not cook very often, but I STRONGLY urge the cake to make a strawberry shortcake. I have a yellow cake, strawberries and whipped cream cream, but no creative spark. Does anyone know a recipe for one? I probably have more ingredients if I looked like I could always run to the store, but I should soon be before strawberries go bad! Please help
Instead of a yellow cake, I would try cake – it just tastes so much better. Of course you can a REAL shortcake ….. but that sounds as effort! I would send you the recipe I used to use, but I do not have – I would google, and just make sure to be a really basic ingredients to use – lots of butter, eggs and flour, sugar and vanilla. Use a loaf tin -. Regarding the strawberries cut into slices and place them on a little sugar (maybe a quarter cup per pint of strawberries) and refrigerate. They will keep for several days (good way to avoid spoilage) and the sugar will help create a natural syrup. When you're ready to eat brew this amazing, just slice the pie, Serve with spoonfuls of strawberry / whipped cream syrup and big blobs! and (now Strawberry Shortcake … I regret that the strawberry season passed in Spain) EDIT: Try this recipe – it looks a lot like one I used to have.
