Surprise Invitation to Bali
I cleaned up after dinner, started the dishwasher and grabbed a fresh cup of coffee from the pot on the counter. The sweet, creamy coffee was exactly what I needed on this cold January evening in Calgary, Alberta. This winter seemed colder than the rest and I was a bit restless. The wind blew outside and the building was frost on the windows. We had worked their way temperatures below -40 degrees and the 7 hours was just enough daylight to work and make your way home. Spring was a long 2 maybe 3 months away. Sometimes felt You're trapped and sometimes it was like a warm blanket wrapped around you keeping you safe. My daughter Stevie was in her room playing make believe, and my barbies house with her husband on the phone with his brother-best friend. I went to our computer room to see if I had an interesting forwarded messages in my email box. Once I opened my mailbox I got the chance to dating service to add, enhance many body parts, oh and a nice email from my sister. She is always short, sweet and to the point – I love getting her notes she wants know what we do for Easter .. – She is always looking forward and making great plans that I send her back an email telling her we should try and let stay in touch for a plan. I move on to see if anything else in my mail box to entertain me and I find an email in my spam box for a girl named Sharon. Wait! I remember meeting Sharon at a club through one of my male friends and yes, we exchange emails. I open it and click on the boxes that allow the entire email to see -. she is in Hawaii and then on her Heading to Bali she was busy with a trip around the world that began in England and went to finish in Bali before she returned to England. I met her in a club in Calgary. She was one of my male friends and they seemed to have been around for about 2 weeks before they moved. We exchanged email addresses and I thought I would e-mail penpal friend, if anything. There was a message her! She had a blast in Maui with the hiking and swimming in her life. She was on her way to the Indonesian island of Bali in a few weeks until the end of her tour before heading home. She would go alone and wondered if I would like to meet. I reread the email again -!. I could not believe my eyes I wondered if she really meant it, or just in the closing of its e-mail My husband came into the computer room ……… I looked at him and said, "Look at the email I received from Sharon" While he was reading, I saw his face -. he finished reading smiled and said, "When are you leaving?" We had some rocky times with one and knew a vacation would do me good. I knew I was very fortunate to his blessing without any hesitation and my daughter said "mom have a great time, bring me home something cool. So I knew I was on my way.
I began to scour the Internet looking for a flight and came to me with an in Denpasar airport in Bali .. Only one day before Sharon was so excited and I had to make sure I was willing to go I went and got a photo taken – a passport application and the required amount of money. I went to the Travel Clinic for some updated shots. I received my passport and was good to go. I booked a room in a guesthouse in Kuta and that would be a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport and was very reasonable at $ 12 per night. I booked 3 nights and we would for a place look after that. The flight from Calgary took me on a long 35 hour tour of airports in Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore, and finally Denpasar, Bali. I met a girl at the flights, she was from Montreal, who came with me to my hostel for a room for the night. I saw her during my short stay, but she went her own way once we have landed. My room was rustic and smelled of mold and moisture. All Bali smelled of mold and moisture. Most of the steps and sidewalks were moss / fungi are all green in color and my room was all wood -. the floors, walls, ceiling, furniture, everything was made of wood it was. beautiful and the change in the Canadian winter made me feel like I'm on another planet. I opened the window and saw a small balcony. Their was a little unusual double door that opened onto the balcony it had a bench built across the front and a number of trailing flowers growing on the edge and hanging The smell of the ocean -.. the heat and humidity – I was in paradise.
While I waited for Sharon, I ran the lanes. There were more lanes, side lanes, winding all streets somewhere. I started and found a more traveled road leading to a number of restaurants and shops. Walking on the elevated steps for restaurants with large animals and chickens hanging in the windows. They were making soup and shredded meat and the flavors were odd, but alluring. I stepped down into a stall and grabbed a restaurant table. A little woman came to me and offered me a menu. I opened the menu and was pleasantly surprised too few photos of dishes with prices next to see. There must have been 50 pieces – they really have all these? I took a chicken item that looked like I was on a number of flights illness and needed something silly. I was saddened and shocked when the lady came back with a scale that contained very little broth, a ton of chicken parts and pieces and green vegetables that I have never seen before. Before she could walk away so I asked for crackers or bread to my stomach situation to help but her lack of English and my lack of Balinese not help me much. I was looking to the left in the bowl of chicken soup part and tried best of it. That night I ordered room service and had a clubhouse sandwich -.. a little different that I'm used to, but Sharon was very good after my first day in Bali and was very tired and quiet, we walked the beach and met each other – they told me that she was pregnant by fellow she met in Calgary (my husband's friend) and was terribly confused and unsure what she wanted to do. to spend the next three weeks to figure out her next steps Like I. We decided to have a peaceful holiday and do not expect to accompany all trips / day. This allowed me to do what it takes time out to think to see what my next step in life were.
We checked out of our guesthouse in Kuta and moved inland to Ubud. Movements in Bali is very easy because there are so many hired drivers just wait until you take the day and will cost around $ 20 for the whole day. The ride took about 45 minutes to Ubud and the road was terribly windy. There were many villages and shops along the road and Sharon became motion sick on the road. We drove rolling green hills covered with rice paddies that seemed to be deposited with the deep blue ocean. We passed villages of artists, museums, temples, kites, and I even witnessed a funeral feast. Our driver, Putu, came to pick me up 5 times during our 3 weeks stay. Once we passed his home and he took me there to meet his parents this was not a conventional house. – There was a wooden house / shack to sleep, a food and one for the laundry room. I met his father and mother and took a tour of homes. Putu took me back to what the family would one common room for tea and biscuits, and I asked him about his father and mother to gather for a picture. When he got there he stood with a woman other than the one he had first introduced me to so I asked him and he said: "This woman is my mother, she is married to my father, but she could not bear children, so my father married the first woman you meet and had children with her and this woman raised us. We all live together "Their form separate family never divorced and had some clear pluses and because they all lived together under one roof. When I was the island I felt like I left was leaving my family Putu said hello again and it was a sad day. I will one day return to visit and continue my adventure in this beautiful and magical island of Bali.
