How to Paint Louvered Vinyl Exterior Shutters
This tutorial explains how to paint brand new paintable vinyl exterior shutters and is not intended or recommended for the PVC type of exterior shutters or repainting old exterior shutters. You have the paint grade shutters for this procedure correctly work.
First you need to decide whether to spray or brush with a brush. It is recommended that you use a spray system to paint your exterior vinyl shutters, as the result will be more consistent.
Next is paint selection. There are three basic choices to consider and the choice you make is very personal to you and the style of your home:
1. Exterior flat paints
2. Satin / satin finish paint
3. Gloss paint
Choosing the quality of the paint Plastic is different than the paint you would use for painting wood. Whether spraying or brushing, I always recommend to relatively cheap paint. I recommend this for two reasons. First, you will not have to deal with moisture problems, so the mil thickness of the paint is not important. Secondly, very high quality paints are more spherical and intended for use with a roller, the paint is too thick, even for spraying makes. Remember that a plastic product is inert and does not absorb moisture or emit fumes so protection from the elements is secondary.
Priming depends on the exact nature of the surface you're working with. If the material is a styrene, such as the Mid-America brand (only the color # 30) or a high quality copolymer, such as Alcoa Vintage shutters or pre-painted product, and if you have a flat exterior latex paint, you get excellent adhesion without primer.
If you use anything other than flat latex always the prime surface of the exterior vinyl shutters first. The paint supply store will have cheap primer (primer wood is fine) and the weather was not of high quality as simply the adhesion provide your top layers of paint.
Follow the instructions and pay careful attention to the temperature guideline for the paint can for best results.
You have the following items to get started:
1. A pair of trestles (or two large boxes)
2. A drop sheet (plastic or cloth)
3. An equal number of boxes the number of exterior shutter panels to paint (the boxes are for storing the freshly painted exterior shutter panels during drying)
4. Spray gun or a two-inch brush and a half inch brush
5. Paper towels or clean cloth
6. A mask as recommended by the paint manufacturer
OK, time to Picasso to get it to work.
Open blinds shutters are a great challenge because of the angle of the slats and the resulting difficulty in obtaining full coverage. If you do not consider the space between the slats and you install the exterior doors at eye level or higher, after you install your vinyl shutters unpainted spaces behind the bar will be visible.
If you spray before you actually paint on the vinyl shutter using a test site for an even spray pattern and to ensure that the gun working properly. The dry side of the cardboard boxes will work well for this. Jealousy to paint vinyl shutters, lay the board down and start spraying to keep the gun a forty-five degrees than the goal of the nozzle vane in the cavity. Spray with even strokes and paint before you start zone and always follow through your paint zone. Go to the other side and repeat. Always check for adequate coverage of the paint on the outside shutter before going to the next stage. While the window shutter is down, it is a good idea to paint the edges to ensure that they are well treated. I am always amazed at the missed spots on the edges if I do not.
When you brush, you will need the small brush for this job. Paint generously between the slats, make sure to also paint the sides of the bar about half an inch. Painting the edges with a brush, while the exterior shutter is face is a good idea too.
Turn on the exterior window shutter. You do not have to wait until the paint dry as the back of the exterior shutter is recessed and will not directly from the carton.
When spraying, use the same angle of the spray gun when used on the back of the grids and spraying in the slat cavity on both sides. Go to the bottom of the outside shutter and angle of the gun, so you Bullnose (the edge of the grid) paint. Keep the spray gun at about thirty degrees and spray from side to side, even strokes, paint re-spray your area to ensure the finish is applied evenly. The next step is to go to the top the shutter and spray the face of the bar. Here you keep a gun at ninety degrees to the slats (perpendicular to the bar), again on your paint spray zone. Re-spray the edges and styles paint (vertical tracks). Finishing with a second layer, inspect, and re-shoot if necessary.
Brushing is quite clear and requires little other than using your two-inch brush for the coat of paint. Sure to inspect the exterior edges of the hatches for a full coverage and that you are indeed completely cover the exterior shutter.
Move the newly painted vinyl shutters on one of the boxes you painted the shutters to dry and until all vinyl exterior shutters are painted again.

If I buy a stereo system to play my CDs, I can hook a record player to play it on vinyl?
Do I need a turntable or a new vintage? and how much will a solid record run me?
The stereo system should have the red and white AUX inputs for a turntable to play. To my knowledge Most turntables use the auxiliary red and white connections. You can make a decent record player for $ 100. Check online, I have one on Amazon that you can plug into a computer to examine the records to copy and create CDs or put them on an iPod or player.
