Five ways the image of Victorian Christmas Decorations Ranges
1. Use greenery. Natural green, like branches of pine and spruce a major role in the Victorian holiday decor – in fact, holiday parties around "the hanging of the greens were a standard of the day. Pines and spruces are traditional holiday green, and branches of glossy, durable Magnolia and bay leaves look beautiful on their own or in combination.
2. Raid the pantry. Fresh fruit was considered a treat in the middle of a Victorian era winter, and it was enjoyed for its beauty and its taste. Tuck a few sprigs of greenery and ribbon bows in a sparkling glass bowl of shiny red and Green apples or oranges clove studded dash for an economic period charm.
Walnuts, almonds, chestnuts and hazlenuts were traditional Victorian Christmas treats that look great in bowls or the greens in the centerpieces and floral arrangements.
3. Raid the sewing basket. The Victorians loved embellishment and added where possible. Try pinning or hot glue lace or fabric store pony around the center of cheap satin Christmas balls for the period of flare. Simple arches of cheap by-the-yard lace making delicate and lovely additions to the tree, and the wide lace, ribbon, or lengths of fabric can be woven between the greens in the schemes.
More sewing room ideas: low ropes "Pearls" and beads sold by the yard or in precut cards are a perfect Victorian accent almost everywhere. Put them on the tree, rope them into wreaths and greens, or around them white candle wrap. Cut into 4 "lengths and glue or sew several together on one end to beautiful tassels for the tree or mantel.
4. Many use making candles. Although gas lighting was common during the Victorian period were still used candles for elegant lighting. Groups of long, slender tapered invested greens and flowers were typical of the day.
5. Think beyond the standard red and green. Deep purple colors like burgundy and forest green were popular during the Victorian age, and settled with accents of white, silver or gold they add both elegance and the old style. Plaids and Paisley print in the colors of wine, deep greens, deep blues and purple Victorian were also favorites.
