Collecting Diecast Toys – a hobby for All Ages
Diecast toy vehicles were first produced in England and the U.S. in the early 1900s. This was the beginning of what became to be one of the most popular toy ever. Diecast toys are now collected by thousands of people, both children and adults worldwide.
The early diecast models were very simple, with just a painted metal cabinet without interior whatsoever.They were unfortunately made of a low grade cast metal alloys in most cases the test of low quality time.These alloys brittle as they age and gradually deteriorate and crumble. Following this early cast toys from the first quarter of the twentieth century are scarce today.
Before long, however, these early diecast toy makers realized that there was really a good market for toy cars. Cars, trucks, airplanes miniature farm machinery, and many other models were widely produced by several manufacturers. As demand grew the quality of materials used to make toys and had improved. More attention to detail was the rule and manufacturers vying for more sales.
In the early 1930 Modelled Miniatures were introduced. This 1 / 43 scale mini-vehicles were designed for use with model train layouts. Soon they became popular as a collectible, in their own right, and were known as Dinky Toys.
The height of the popularity of Toy Dinky diecast model cars were in the 1950s and 60s. They were quite Basic low detail model, but were very flashy popular.The big American cars seen on TV shows, which began in the year 1950, was highly desirable Dinky Toys and the more sedate small English cars sold over time.
Dinky Toys are made in the year 1970, when she died, predominantly due to competition from Mattel Hot Wheels. Vintage Dinky Toys have become a popular collectible and some of the scarcer models fetch very high prices.
The famous Lesney Matchbox cars started production in England in 1947 and thus began a new trend in diecast models. In 1953, Lesney was a miniature diecast model of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth coach complete with horses. This model was a huge success and more than one million were sold.
The Lesney Matchbox cars were produced in huge numbers with 75 different vehicles in each line. This gave collectors a vast variety of models to collect.
The line of Corgi diecast vehicles was introduced by Mettoy in the year 1950. These were very successful. One of the major reasons for their success was that these cars have exceptional attention to interior design. They had detailed interior. They were even equipped with a clear plastic windows. This highly detailed miniature vehicles were a big hit with collectors.
In 1968 Mattel introduced Hot Wheels cars with a first line of 16 vehicles. These early Hotwheels vehicles all had a red line along the side of the tire. This led to their becoming known to collectors as Red Hot Line Wheels models. The first line began sixteen models which are now known to collectors as the "Sweet Sixteen" and are very popular.
Hot Wheels vehicles were collected around the world through rabid collectors and were a great success story for Mattel. They remain in production at the current time.
There are now hundreds of different companies diecast toy collector. They are manufactured in Taiwan, Korea, China and other countries around the world. High quality and attention to detail are a must if one diecast toy is a success as collectors' items. Diecast toys made around the world are now mostly of very good quality.

Baby Boomers?! Are you still looking for a disturbing Beatnik talking doll that Mattel would have gone out?
I think the doll by Mattel same company Who has the Chatty Cathy doll. You put the ring on her neck / back and they talked. I looked like a doll in the window of a vintage shop in 1980 and she freaked me out even then. I have a phobia about dolls in general, but this really freaked me many years later as an adult. Does anyone remember that particular doll?
In 1964, Mattel came out with a 23 cm high, black haired doll named Scooba Doo Beatnik You could pull a string and they would say certain things (ie: .. Do you dig my crazy black stockings or not square, I am Hip, etc.)
